**Who we are**
Environment Information Australia (EIA) has been created to provide access to authoritative sources of high-quality environmental information as set out in the Nature Positive Plan: better for the environment, better for business (Nature Positive Plan) released in December 2022.
EIA’s vision is to lead on, and be an enduring source of shared national, trusted and accessible environmental data and information for nature positive outcomes. We are dedicated to unlocking the full value of environmental data. Our goal is to assist regulators, researchers, policymakers, investors and proponents in accessing relevant environmental data precisely when needed, serving its intended purpose effectively. This will enable us to effectively track and report on environmental outcomes.
**The Job**
The Branch Head, Environmental Information Policy and Strategy will assist in leading EIA to deliver on its mandate to provide environmental information to the independent Environment Protection Australia, the Government, and to the public, ensuring national environmental decision-making is underpinned by trusted, best available, and integrated information.
The Branch Head of the Environmental Information Policy and Strategy Branch will be responsible for:
**Developing a National Data and Information Standard**
- Draft national data and information standard to be tabled in parliament (~ March 2025).
- Design and undertake broad consultation around draft the data and information standard.
- Stand up pilot framework and studies (all sectors incl. environment, finance, resources, govt) and advisory group to ground test draft standard.
**Designing and convening a National Environmental Data Supply Chain**
- Orchestrate initial consultation to raise external awareness and support for the EIA
- Design governance structures.
- Appoint an advisory board and specialist technical committees as appropriate.
- Build strong partnerships with states and territories, industry, researchers, universities, museums and proponents to contribute to the national environmental supply chain.
- Establish effective data exchange agreements with all States and Territories.
**Exploring the development of a National Environmental Data Strategy**
- Engage with national and jurisdictional stakeholders to scope the appetite for potential objectives of a National Environmental Data Strategy
- Lead multijurisdictional efforts to develop a national strategy to ensure the effective operation of the national environmental data supply chain
**Coordinating the design of EIA’s digital infrastructure**
- Coordinate across EIA and with ICT the analysis, design and staging of the digital infrastructure and the transformation needed for EIA to meet DCCEEW’s priorities and effect a federated national environmental data and information supply chain
**Communications**
- Publish data and information products through the EIA website and portal
- Design a communications plan to raise awareness and help internal and external stakeholders understand EIA’s mission and work.
- Design a cohesive narrative, branding and publications plan for EIA products.
- Represent the EIA and the Department at a range of forums
**What we are looking for**
To be successful for this role you will need to meet the Senior Executive Service capability for the SES Band 1 level, and you will have the following:
- Ability to take a strategic perspective in driving broad transformational change, both internal and external to the Department.
- Outstanding leadership skills, a substantial record of achievement and a reputation for innovation and delivery of results.
- Excellent stakeholder relationship skills, and experience in engaging with internal and external stakeholders at all levels to explore opportunities, solve complex problems and guide negotiations in a facilitative way.
- Ability to manage competing demands and work to tight deadlines.
- Highly developed team management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all audiences in an articulate and persuasive manner.
- Demonstrated public service professionalism and probity.
**Desirable qualifications**
Formal scientific, data or digital qualifications and applied experience of environmental or other data and derived information.
**Eligibility and other requirements**
**Citizenship** - To be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.
**Security Clearance**:
- This position requires a **Negative Vetting Level 1** security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
