This Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service represents the health needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the Northwest, and Lower Gulf regions of Queensland. Their mission is to provide holistic and culturally appropriate health services, underpinned by a philosophy of community participation, and with a strong focus on care coordination.

This service provides a broad range of primary health care and aged care services, and they are now the largest Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service provider by land area in Queensland. Their vast service footprint spans approximately 640,000 km2, including some 11,000 Indigenous people. Their service includes two Hospital and Health Service regions (Central West and Northwest) and shares its boundary with the Western Queensland Primary Health Network (WQPHN).

**Position Summary**
The Aboriginal Health Worker reports to the Health Services Manager and is part of the Health Services team.
The primary function of this position is to provide high quality services including assessment, examination, treatment and case management, along with contributing to the development of models of holistic health incorporating continuity of care.
The Aboriginal Health Worker work within a clinical team environment with the aim of improving the health status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through the provision of comprehensive and culturally valid primary health care services.
The scope of this position includes clinical and administration.

**Selection Criteria**
- Understanding of and adherence to the principles of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health services, including a high -evel awareness of health issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in rural and remote locations; an understanding of how ‘whole-of-life’ and social circumstances can impact on health, wellbeing and opportunities.
- A minimum Certificate III (ideally Certificate IV) in Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice
- Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health services and the issues facing these organisations.
- Demonstrated ability to take direction, determine priorities and manage workloads in order to meet agreed timelines and objectives
- Ability to demonstrate good clinical skills
- An ability to communicate and empathise with Aboriginal people
- Demonstrated understanding of the principles of primary health care
- Demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of professionals and the public, as part of a team
- Demonstrated ability to liaise and work with local communities and relevant Government and non-Government organizations.
- Effective communication skills - written, verbal and interpersonal
- Computer literacy, including use of client record systems, electronic communication and word processing.
- Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) - essential.
- Satisfactory police check - no serious Criminal/Court record.
- Willingness to work flexible hours as required, including the requirement to travel, work and stay overnight for up to several days at a time in remote areas.
- Willingness to travel by road and small plane.
- 3 x Covid-19 vaccinations
