**About the role**
In this role as the Heavy Plant Operator, you will operate a wide range of construction plant and equipment in a safe, efficient and professional manner in a civil construction and maintenance environment. There is a strong focus on quality of work and customer service and by working as an effective team member you will contribute to the overall success of the Department through the delivery of high quality, cost effective services to the community.

Key responsibilities include:

- Role model and promote Council values in all aspects of duty.
- Ensure that all plant and equipment is operated and maintained in a professional and effective manner and in compliance with all relevant Occupational Health and Safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Carry out a range of civil construction and maintenance activities utilising Council’s fleet of plant and equipment or, plant hired from external suppliers.
- Ensure that all minor tools and equipment are used correctly, are appropriately maintained and are kept secure.
- Ensure that all vehicles and items of mobile plant are driven in accordance with all of the relevant State road laws and regulations.
- Ensure that all plant and equipment is effectively secured when not in use to prevent unauthorised use or theft.
- To participate and contribute as an effective team member in order to complete a range of civil construction and maintenance activities in a safe, efficient and professional manner, in order to meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Comply with all of Council’s Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures and wear, use and effectively maintain all personal protective equipment provided by Council
- Ensure that all site team members are aware of, and adhere to, safe operating practices when working in the vicinity of plant and equipment.

**About you**
- Skid steer or Excavations tickets preferred.
- Red Card (Construction Induction).
- Experience in the safe and effective operation and maintenance of a range of construction plant and equipment.
- Experience in basic worksite traffic management and traffic control (Stop/Slow Bat and Spotter).
- Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety legislation and regulations relevant to the operation and maintenance of construction plant and equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member.
- Knowledge of relevant road laws and road sign regulations.
- Proven ability to perform manual work, including lifting of weights, in accordance with the relevant Occupational Health & Safety guidelines.
- Sound interpersonal communication, literacy and numeracy skills.
- Commitment to adhering to the Council Code of Conduct, values and all applicable policies and procedures.
- Experience in infrastructure construction and maintenance activities in a local government environment.
