Mansfield Steiner School is a vibrant, expanding school situated in beautiful North East Victoria. Our school presently offers classes from Pre-school to Year 12, following the Australian Steiner Curriculum Framework to Year 10 and the International Baccalaureate Diploma in Years 11 and 12.

As part of our vision for the senior school and in line with the Steiner School philosophy, the senior school has created a vision for an extensive, progressive, life-skill building, Year 9 outdoor education program. The program includes time in the outdoors and in-house, life-skills workshops every school-week of the year. It envisions that students will have the opportunity to complete their Bronze Medallion, while studying coastal Geography. Students will spend significant time in the Alpine National Park, which is at the doorstep of the school, participating in both hiking and cross-country skiing. This will be coupled with an Alpine landscapes lesson and an English unit of Australian bush poetry and storytelling. The Outdoor Education focused year will culminate in an extended multi-modal journey that will have students return to school after an extensive journey through various Victorian landscapes.

We are looking for a passionate, committed and team-oriented individual who can fulfil the requirements of the role listed below.

The applicant must have a strong desire to work within the Australian Steiner Curriculum Framework and to learn about the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner as it applies to the school and the Outdoor Education program.

The applicant should have a strong desire to work closely with and mentor groups of young people towards building an outdoor education program, where skills are taught to students, that will enable the group to work towards self-preparing and self-guiding their final extended journey (under the mentorship of the Outdoor Education teacher). The Outdoor Education teacher may, at times, be required to work as part of the greater senior school, staff team in the support or delivery of camp programs other than the Year 9 program.

The applicant should have a strong ethos of self-reliance (skills in cooking, group management, self-management, hygiene management) as well as the ability to consult and collaborate with staff and students in order to create and maintain the outdoor education program with safety and integrity.

Highly Regarded Qualifications
- A current Wilderness First Aid certificate
- Flat Water Canoe Instructors certificate (or equivalent)
- Cross-country Ski-Instructor’s certificate (or equivalent).
- Light rigid bus driver licence (must be able to drive 22-seater bus, with a trailer)
- Knowledge of the creation of risk assessment and risk registers concerning camps and outdoor education journeys.
- Knowledge of how to create general policies concerning Outdoor Education journeys.
- Good knowledge of bikes, bike repair/ maintenance and ability to instruct bike riding skills (on gravel or bitumen
- no mountain bike riding)
- A knowledge of Alpine environments is highly desirable.
- IT proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs
