Allied Health Assistant - permanent part time (2 days per week)
We have a permanent part-time role in the speech pathology NDIS team. This highly engaging patient-centred role has you working closely with our clinicians to provide meaningful patient-centred care to patients living with progressive neurological diseases such as Motor Neurone disease or Huntington’s disease. Excellent support and supervision will be provided to develop your skills.
**The main duties include**:
Assisting and working with patients/participants on an individual or group basis, as directed by Speech Pathologists, to undertake activities that support the patient’s communication and swallowing goals. This may require you to undertake prescribed activities alongside the speech pathologist or independently within the patient’s home setting
Conducting therapeutic interventions under the indirect supervision of a speech pathologist examples may include assisting with practicing new technology for functional communication, voice banking, providing mealtime support.
Providing home-based clinical activities as prescribed and directed by the treating therapist to support the participant to achieve their goals. Examples may include: alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) equipment set up, practice and training.
Indirect clinical activities such as developing communication resources to support communication, Examples may include creating low tech communication aids, About Me resources, instructions or labelling for equipment etc.
Allied health Assistant - casual roles in inpatient and community settings
Inpatient hospital setting - casual AHA role
We have a casual AHA role on the 32 bed inpatient hospital unit. This is a patient facing role in the “Staying Connected Program” which provides patient support in the areas of communication, technology support and social connection. The role also involves general administrative duties and resource development for patients. You will work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team. The program enables inpatients to receive practical and meaningful support to enhance social connection, coping and wellbeing, at a time when they are extremely socially isolated.
**The main duties will include**:
Providing face to face support for inpatients to help them access technology and improve their digital skills (on their personal devices or via our loan ipad program)
Assist with developing individualised communication support (low tech aids or education resources) as directed by Speech Pathologists.

Community setting - casual role Allied health Commonwealth Home Support Program
We have a casual AHA role available in our Allied Health Commonwealth home support program (CHSP) which provides physiotherapy, OT, speech pathology and dietetic services to eligible participants over 65 years old with a range of medical conditions, who are living in their own home within our local catchment area of Caulfield and surrounding suburbs.
**This is a patient facing role. The main duties will include**:
Direct home-based clinical activities as prescribed and directed by the treating therapist to support the participant to achieve their goals. Examples may include
- exercise programs, equipment set up and training,
Indirect clinical activities such as developing resources to support therapy programs. Examples may include pictures of exercise, instructions or labelling for equipment etc.
General administrative duties as delegated by the program co-ordinator.
What you bring (relevant to permanent and casual roles)
Cert IV Allied Health Assistant qualification OR hold or be undertaking a relevant undergraduate degree
Demonstrated passion and empathy for the needs of those with complex disability (patients with physical/communication/cognitive disabilities)
Ability to engage patients in meaningful activities based on their goals of care
Ability to adapt and respond to patient needs
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritise in a flexible and adaptable way.
Ability to work as part of an inter-disciplinary team and under delegation from allied health clinicians.
Computer literate, proficient use of Microsoft office suite
Confident user of everyday technology and mobile devices such as smartphones, ipads, and tablets
Experience in healthcare setting preferred
