School Learning Support Officer

**Position Information**:
The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world-class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non-government schools. We employ, develop and support teachers, leaders and other staff to deliver the best outcomes for students and to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.

**About the Role**

School Learning Support Officers provides support for students with identified diverse learning needs including disability in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher to support the achievement of educational outcomes. This support includes student welfare, health and wellbeing activities as required. This position will be attached to a newly established Multi-Categorical Support Class.

**Essential Requirements**
- Working with Children Check Clearance
- Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education and a willingness to undertake first aid training relevant to the School Learning Support Officer role.
- Administration of Medications - training to be provided based on student needs.

Mannering Park Public School was established in 1961 and is situated at the northern end of the Central Coast. The school is on Darkinjung and Awabakal traditional land and serves a small township located on an isolated peninsular on the southern shores of Australia's largest and most picturesque salt water lake, Lake Macquarie.

Mannering Park Public School has 228 students enrolled from K-6 and has a dedicated staff who ensure every student is known, valued and cared for. The school receives School Based Allocation Resources (SBAR) funding for Aboriginal Education, socio-economic backgrounds, integration and low-level adjustment for disability and support, initiative funding for beginning teachers and Early Action for Success. The school Aboriginal student population is 22% and has strong links with the local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG). A permanent Aboriginal SLSO is appointed to the school to enhance the culture and connectedness of the school community.

The school fosters improvement in teaching and learning through stage-based Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) which are led by Assistant Principals and an Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction. There is a relentless focus on improvement in literacy, numeracy, differentiated programming, assessment and student wellbeing. The school is committed to providing high quality, needs-based special education for students with disabilities in our Multi-categorical (MC) and Emotional Disturbance (ED) Support Classes.

Staff at Mannering Park Public School have a history of support environmental education, public speaking, breakfast club, debating, social skills programs and various sporting and cultural events. The school's Learning and Support Team proactively supports students and families through robust, individual learning plans that reaches over 40% of students.

The P&C are actively involved in the school and run the uniform shop and canteen. The P&C also drives local fundraising events which assists the school in obtaining high-quality, 21st century teaching and learning resources.
