The Policy Officer is based in the Intergovernmental Relations unit, part of the Reform and Planning Division at the Department of Health. The Policy Officer supports the provision of strategic analysis and advice on national policy issues and intergovernmental agreements in the health portfolio; engages across the department and government, and with the Commonwealth and other jurisdictions; and provides support to a range of governance groups including cross-jurisdictional Ministerial meetings.

Accountabilities

- Contribute to the development and provision of strategic advice and sound policy recommendations to senior management and government.
- Undertake research and contribute to the development of a range of policy and initiatives in collaboration with others across the department, within resourcing, timelines and budget parameters.
- Assist the monitoring and reporting on high priority issues, risks and trends and assist to prepare and present comprehensive and high quality reports, ministerial briefs, cabinet and agency submissions on complex issues in a timely manner.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships and promote the flow of information across the department and with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain an understanding of Commonwealth and State legislative and policy reform directions to contribute to policy development.
- Provide a range of administrative, secretariat and project/coordination related activities to support the work of the Branch.
- Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
