Overview:

- Part-time (0.6FTE), 2.5 year Fixed Term position
- Salary Academic Level B ($110,868 - $131,659) + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements
- Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University

About the Role

The Research Fellow will contribute to a 2.5 year project investigating the impact of generative AI on organisational structures and inter-organisational interactions, aiming to develop an AI theory of the firm. Organisations are central to knowledge dissemination and value creation in society, functioning as complex rule systems that deploy knowledge to achieve specific goals. Historically, advances in ICT have enabled organisations to grow and improve efficiency, but their fundamental structure has remained largely unchanged.

The research will examine changes to organisational and inter-group coordination as complex knowledge systems such as generative AI become more accessible. This includes confidentiality needs, inter-group knowledge-sharing systems, methods for handling differing organisational or community ontologies, and group/organisation-level governance approaches in relation to AI and automated decision-making. The research will also examine the adoption of decentralised AI within organisational contexts and the organisational capabilities required to make effective use of AI. The Research Fellow will need experience of digital ethnography methods and practice, including experience and/or thorough understanding of computer aided ethnography approaches and tools.
