**About the team**:
The **Strategic Basins Team** supports the responsible development of Australia’s energy resources while supporting the transition to net-zero. We work closely with state and territory governments and the private sector to co-ordinate and support new resources developments. We provide advice to the Australian Government and develop policies that support a strong and innovative resources sector. Our policy solutions support science-based decision-making and work to ensure that the benefits of resources developments contribute to local communities.
The **Timor Sea Team** supports the Minister and Senior Managers on issues related to the Timor Sea. We are responsible for leading the Australian Government’s negotiations with the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, and the Sunrise Joint Venture, on the development of the Greater Sunrise gas fields. The team also leads on the Timor-Leste Australia LNG Partnership which supports business and government delegate visits between Timor-Leste and Australia. Through the partnership we aim to share knowledge, strengthen business relationships and build workforce capability in the LNG industry.

**What you will do**:
Working in the Strategic Basins Team you will:
- Work in a fast-paced, supportive environment with a high degree of independence
- Contribute to research and analysis on the resources sector, the government’s policy agenda and whole-of-government issues like trade, climate change, the environment, skills, technology and policy relating to Indigenous Australians.
- Contribute to high quality advice to the department’s Executive and the relevant Minister.
- Work closely with stakeholders including other Commonwealth agencies, State Governments and the private sector.
- Devise strategies to ensure benefits associated with resources development are realised and shared across local communities.
Working in the Timor Sea Team you will assist in matters relating to Australia’s resource sharing negotiations with Timor-Leste, including:
- Working with partner agencies making up the Australian Government negotiating team
- Assisting in maintaining productive relationships with Timor-Leste Government counterparts and commercial venture representatives
- Assisting in drafting briefs for senior managers on the development of Timor Sea resources
- Assisting with the development of the Timor Leste Australia LNG Partnership
**APS 5 Policy Officers** may have relatively new or limited policy background and will be able to work on moderately complex to complex matters under limited direction. They will have, or be able to quickly learn, the role and functions of the department and an understanding of how these relate to their work area. Policy Officers provide professional and policy advice within an area of specialisation, assist with the development of policy documents, and work with internal and external stakeholders in relation to policy development. They will contribute to the setting of work priorities, and participate in strategic planning for the longer-term work of the team.
**Eligibility**:
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens. Relevant tertiary qualifications are desirable.
**Security Clearance**:
The Strategic Basins Team positions require a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
The Timor Sea Team position requires an NV2 security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
