**College Objective**At Geelong Lutheran College it is expected that each staff member will support the Christian
ethos of the schools and demonstrate courtesy, cooperation and teamwork with fellow
members of staff. A good example for Christian living is to be given to children and parents
by words and actions.
The Christian Education environment depends largely on the maturity and professionalism
of all staff members co-operating fully with the Executive Principal, Head of Secondary,
Assistant Head of Secondary, and other staff. Staff are to adhere to the policies and the
Lutheran teachings and to foster the ethos, culture and traditions of Geelong Lutheran
College.
**Position Overview**The Dean of Students Year 7-8 will provide Christian leadership in developing culture,
community, and establishing and maintaining clear expectations in line with schoolwide
Strategic Vision and Goals.
They will proactively cultivate a positive and caring learning environment for students to
transition effectively into Secondary School and enable them to flourish. They will oversee
the pastoral care, wellbeing, holistic programs, and academic progress of Year 7-8
students through targeted programs, individualised support, data-informed interventions,
and close collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
The Dean of Students Years 7-8 will develop and maintain positive working relationships
with:
- Head of Secondary
- Assistant Head of Secondary
- Director of Staff
- Director of Teaching and Learning
- Inclusive Education Leader
- Dean of Students - 9/10, 11/12
- Registrar
- Education Operations Coordinator
- The Head of Primary AC
- The Head of Primary SJ
- Year Level Coordinators
- Other staff at the College
- Students and parents of the College
The Dean is appointed by the Executive Principal and Head of Secondary. This leadership
position has been constructed over a two-year cycle with an appraisal and probation after
6 months. Remuneration is specified in the Multi-Enterprise Agreement (MEA)

**Duties and Leadership of Learning Community**
**Responsibilities**- Lead, develop and embed the holistic goals for the Learning Community.
- Lead Year Level Coordinators and Assistant Year Level Coordinators through weekly
meetings, mentoring, and oversight of their responsibilities.
- Lead staff development and uphold expectations to meet student needs effectively.
- Lead Year 7-8 Learning Community programs, assemblies and events.
- Embody College values in day-to-day interactions; maintaining daily visibility and
involvement eg. Pastoral Care Group, attendance at student events, camp,
excursions/ incursions, performances and exracurricular events.
- Support staff to set individual and team goals and maintain accountability for
ongoing growth and development.
**Pastoral & Academic Programs**
- Lead and monitor the the Pastoral Care Program, ensuring it is taught consistently
across all Pastoral Groups.
- Monitor academic programs, ensuring alignment with school processes.
- Facilitate transition programs for new and rising students, including orientation
- events, class placements, elective selections and peer-mentor pairings.
- Monitor academic progress, engagement, attendance, behaviour, and wellbeing data
- weekly; convene support meetings for students at risk.
- Collaborate with the Inclusive Education Leader to implement adjustments for
- identified student needs.
- Engage in professional networks and self-guided professional learning to stay current
with research and best practices.
**Student Behaviour, Restorative Practice & Wellbeing**
- Serve as the primary facilitator of restorative practices and deliver professional
learning for staff and students on restorative practices, behaviour management,
pastoral care and wellbeing, de-escalation strategies, and student engagement.
- Provide coaching and mentoring on classroom culture, behaviour management, and
wellbeing strategies.
- Lead student positive behaviour management including class removals, reintegration
conversations, and escalations.
- Mediate staff-student matters and restorative groups to build relationships and
teach conflict resolution.
- Ensure staff accountability in logging and following up on behaviour incidents.
- Investigate behaviour incidents promptly, assign fair consequences, maintain
- behaviour records, and communicate with relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Wellbeing Team and Secondary Care Teams to support students
with significant psychological, emotional, or social needs.
**Student Life and Community Engagement**
- Explore and develop student leadership opportunities and student voice, including
the Student Representative Council elections, meetings, and initiatives.
