_Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) is currently looking for GIS Technician to join the onshore Development team in Newcastle, NSW, Australia._

**The role**

The GIS Technician will play a crucial role in supporting renewable energy project development by utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS) tools and expertise. The role involves the analysis of spatial data, mapping, resource data and analytics to support critical decision-making and optimize project location, design, and development life cycle.

**Responsibilities will further consist of**

**Spatial Analysis**:

- Conduct spatial analyses to identify optimal locations for wind farm development
- Analyse geographical data, including wind patterns, topography, and environmental values.

**Resource Assessment**:

- Utilize GIS tools to assess renewable energy resources, including wind speed and direction, contributing to accurate resource assessments for project feasibility studies

**Site Selection and Optimization**:

- Collaborate with project development teams to identify suitable sites for wind projects, considering technical, environmental, and regulatory factors.
- Optimize wind farm layouts to maximize energy production and minimize environmental impact.

**Environmental Impact Assessment**:

- Support environmental impact assessments by analyzing and visualizing spatial data related to potential impacts on visual amenity, environment and heritage values, and local communities

**Regulatory Compliance**:

- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements by mapping and visualizing regulatory zones, land-use restrictions, and other relevant information affecting project development

**Data Management**:

- Structure, manage and organize GIS databases with a superior level of diligence, ensuring accuracy and integrity of spatial data
- Integrate various public and commercial data sources to support project development.

**Mapping and Visualization**:

- Create high-quality maps and visualizations to communicate project plans, resource assessments, and other spatial insights to internal and external stakeholders

**Collaboration**:

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, environmental specialists, and project managers, to integrate GIS analyses into project development processes

**Continuous Improvement**:

- Stay informed about advancements in GIS technology and methodologies, implementing improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of spatial analyses

**Main Interfaces / stakeholders**
- GIS is a cross functional service that will support project development teams, community consultation, land access teams, engineering, and project bid teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Proven experience in using GIS software, such as ArcGIS or QGIS, for spatial analysis and mapping, including online collaborative GIS tools.
- Knowledge of wind energy project development and familiarity with the National Electricity Market.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to convey complex spatial information to diverse stakeholders.
