About Us
Role Overview
We seek responsible, diligent tutors who can teach Mathematics and/or English at either primary or secondary levels. You do not need to be able to teach all year levels; instead, indicate which levels you are confident to teach (e.g. primary-level Maths or secondary-level English). Initially, you will undertake casual teaching duties during a probation/trial period. Tutors demonstrating strong performance and commitment may be offered a formal role, with opportunities to develop a regular student roster and lead classes in our centre.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, structured lessons in Mathematics and/or English tailored to students’ year level and individual needs:
- Primary: emphasise Selective/OC exam strategies and foundation skills.
- Secondary: cover curriculum topics, exam and assignment preparation, extension tasks for higher-achieving students, or remediation for those needing extra support.
- Use diagnostic assessments to identify strengths and gaps; adapt teaching materials and scaffolding accordingly.
- Provide clear explanations, worked examples, scaffolded tasks, and feedback to build understanding and confidence.
- Monitor student progress, maintain records of attendance and achievement, and communicate progress updates to centre management and parents/guardians as appropriate.
- Participate in centre meetings and training sessions; collaborate with colleagues to develop and share resources.
- Uphold centre policies (e.g. Working With Children Check, privacy, health & safety).
- Be punctual, reliable, and proactive: arrive prepared for scheduled sessions and inform management promptly if changes arise.
**Requirements**:
- Demonstrated proficiency in Mathematics and/or English for specified year levels (e.g., relevant tertiary study, strong academic results, or prior tutoring/teaching experience).
- Strong communication skills in English; ability to explain concepts clearly to diverse learners.
- Responsible, punctual, and committed to maintaining professional standards.
- Ability to differentiate instruction: extension for high-ability students and scaffolded support for those needing reinforcement.
- Familiarity with (or willingness to learn) Australian curriculum frameworks and Selective/OC requirements.
- Comfortable using online platforms/tools if delivering remote lessons.
- Valid Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain) and any other required clearances.
- Reliable transport for in-person sessions in Burwood area (if applicable).
What We Offer
- Competitive hourly rate for casual sessions, with increases based on experience, responsibilities, and performance.
- Structured onboarding and training: mentoring from experienced tutors, resource libraries, and pedagogical guidance.
- Warm, friendly workplace culture in central Burwood; supportive colleagues and management.
- Opportunity to grow into a formal role: build your own regular student roster, lead small-group classes, and eventually manage your own classroom allocation.
- Flexible scheduling: after-school, weekend, and holiday sessions to suit your availability.
- Professional development opportunities (e.g., workshops on teaching strategies, Selective/OC exam techniques, EAL/D support).
- Access to centre resources and collaborative planning sessions.
In your resume, please include:
