**About the Carer Gateway Program**
Wellways Australia is the first point of contact for all Australian Government Carer Gateway funded services across Queensland, aiming to help Carers access practical information and advice and connect with services in their local area.

Carer supports and services will be delivered using a network of local Carer Gateway regional service providers Carers and those who provide a caring role to someone in their life who has a disability, mental health issue, chronic health condition, terminal illness or are frail-aged.

**Your new role**

The Youth Specialist is responsible for undertaking intake, assessment and planning services for carers accesseing support provided by the Carer Gateway across South West Sydney, Nepean Blue Mountains & Queensland. The objective of the role is work with young carers over the phone to access information, support and referrals relevant to their caring role.

The new Carer Gateway Services have been created in the context of national reforms and represent an exciting new era for the delivery of innovative carer services.

Reporting to the Coordinator working under limited direction, this role will involve:

- Support carers with a high level of customer service ensuring carers are listened to with patience and non-judgement
- Provide Intake, Planning and Assessment services to Carers as outlined in the Carer Support Framework
- Assisting other areas of the business when required to manage call overflows with inbound calls throughout the contact centre
- The Youth Specialist role is not limited to the listed responsibilities, and will require assistance with other areas of the program to meet the requirements of the organisation

**Pre-employment compliance requirements**
- Qualifications and/or experience working in community services, allied health or carer/family peer positions.
- Experience working with young people is required.
- Lived Experience Desirable
- Ability to sit comfortably with uncomfortable and trauma-based conversations.
- Evidence of working rights within Australia (birth cert/passport/visa)
- Satisfactory Police Check (no older than 12 months)
- Working with Children Check/ Blue Card (Paid Worker) - QLD, prior to commencement.
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate - free online course
- NDIS Worker Screening Check - QLD
- COVID 19 Vaccination Certificate with Booster or valid medical exemption
