The primary purpose of the role is to lead Government Affairs for Oncology Australia GenesisCare and in doing so, ensure patients gain access to the best possible life outcomes, as well as contribute to the medium to long term growth of the business.

The successful Head of Government Affairs will oversee and lead the newly established function by building out, orchestrating, and implementing strategies that help reduce barriers to patient access, influence policy and advocacy, educate key external stakeholders and drive advances in reimbursement and funding frameworks for new and existing oncology treatment techniques.

The role will be required to manage existing, and establish new, relationships with internal and external stakeholders including Government (State and Federal); professional, peak and industry bodies, as well as key customer & patient advocacy groups.

What you’ll do:
- Manage risk: Enhance existing and develop new strategies to optimise outcomes in relation to key reimbursement and funding schemes, in particular the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) and Radiation Oncology Health Program Grants (ROHPG) scheme;-
- Create value: through creating access to new opportunities including supporting the renewal or commencement of public private partnerships, developing novel and unsolicited state and federal government proposals for funding; identifying appropriate grant and funding programs of interest; and/or supporting on longer term market access opportunities for new and novel techniques;-
- Influence policy and lead advocacy: Work with colleagues to develop and contribute to policy and advocacy matters of interest including leading the development of formal (and informal) submissions on an as needs basis e.g., Australian Cancer Plan and or identify opportunities to partner with key policy external stakeholders (including but not limited to RANZCAR, RTAG, PCPA and other consumer advocacy groups) to identify trends and determine opportunities in relation to improving oncology awareness to get outcomes;-
- Build Corporate reputation: Implement an programmatic approach to engaging with key decision makers and stakeholders to build our corporate reputation and educate same on the benefits of the different modalities of oncology care (radiation oncology, medical oncology and precision medicine)-
- Cultivate & keep key relationships: Build on and maintain a sophisticated political, policy and professional network, including national, state, and local organizations of government officials, specific interest groups, national and local payers/budget holders, other health related organisations to understand and monitor legislative, reimbursement and access policy positions and priorities;-
- Internal alignment: inform, convene, and collaborate across internal functions (corporate and clinical) ensuring the Government Affairs priorities are in line with corporate and clinical strategy and needs;-
- Foundations & rhythm: continue to develop foundations needed to strengthen the capability and maturity of the Government Affairs function to drive growth, manage risk and create value including (but not limited to) building out a repository of generic and template assets, generate data led insights and information to enhance engagement with key internal and external stakeholders; mange an dynamic GR CRM; routinely provide advice and insights to key internal stakeholders on the back of reoccurring political activities e.g., State and Federal Budget and elections; develop a methodical approach to GR monitoring to ensure we get access and visibility of real time insights and issues; manage and routinely evaluate relationships with external consultancies to maximise value and outcomes.Who you are:
- A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a Market Access, Government Affairs or related role- Strong understanding of access policy, health economics, outcomes research, and related disciplines- Well-developed analytical and strategic skills with an entrepreneurial insight and a pragmatic approach- Demonstrate you can influence and engage others to work collaboratively internally and externally to change and accept new ideas- Strong leadership skills and experience in liaising, influencing, and negotiating with senior leaders and external government departments.- Comfortable dealing with ambiguity, uncertainty, complexity and time pressures- Excellent decision-making and problem-solving capability- Proven ability to build consultant level peer-to-peer relationships with clinicians and other healthcare professionals.- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, both written and oral and ability to develop and maintain strong work
