**Position Information**:
The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world-class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non-government schools. We employ, develop and support teachers, leaders and other staff to deliver the best outcomes for students and to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.
**About the Role**
School Learning Support Officers (Student Health Support) provide support for students with identified diverse learning needs including disability in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher to support the achievement of educational outcomes. The main focus of the School Learning Support Officers (Student Health Support) is the performance of health support as required so that students can participate in and access educational programs.
**Essential Requirements**
- Working with Children Check Clearance
- Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education to undertake first aid, administration of medications and health care procedures training.
**Selection Criteria**:
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to work with students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
- Awareness of the needs of students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
Effective communication skills.

Broderick Gillawarna School (BGS) is a School for Specific Purposes (SSP) located in Revesby, NSW. The school caters to students aged 4 to 18 years with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, autism, and physical disabilities. BGS aims to provide a comprehensive, individualised education that fosters academic achievement, communication, mobility, living skills, leisure, and vocational skills, enabling students to lead fulfilling lives within the community.
At the heart of BGS is a vision to optimise the strengths of every student and their extended support team to enhance academic achievement and social and emotional development. The school fosters a positive learning environment centred on high expectations, inclusive practice, and collaboration to support each student’s best possible quality-of-life outcomes.
The student population draws from an extended geographical region, with many students accessing the Assisted School Travel Program (ASTP). In 2024, enrolments included 82 boys and 20 girls, reflecting continued demand for the school’s high-quality, individualised programs.
BGS emphasises communication through literacy-based programs, including Picture Exchange Communication and Proloquo2Go. Additionally, the school supports the development of student social skills through work experience and participation in events like the Schools Spectacular.
