**About Kurilpa Community Child Care Centre**
At Kurilpa we want to positively affect the lives of every child at our centre by giving them the best possible educational start in life so they can grow up to meet the challenges of the world with solutions and compassion.
We are a not-for-profit, community run childcare centre in the West End, Brisbane. We are seventy five years young with a proud history of providing accessible high quality education and care.
Kurilpa has 61 places in four rooms, and cares for around 120 children each week. All Kurilpa rooms implement a program that is play-based and will foster each child’s development by providing a diverse range of activities in the indoor and outdoor environments. Kurilpa’s kitchen has pride of place in the centre and provides nutritious vegetarian meals to the children and staff everyday.
**Our vision**
Kurilpa is a community of belonging for children, families and educators, a place to learn, grow, explore and discover together in a never ending learning spiral.
**Our educational philosophy**
Our educational philosophy has six key pillars:
**Child** - We respect each and every child’s uniqueness creating a place where they feel a strong sense of belonging. Our practice is led by the needs and interests of the child, placing them as the leaders of their journey and us as a part of their team of support and security. When children from a very early age develop trusting relationships, they feel confident and able to explore and learn.
**Family** - We uphold the understanding that parents are a child's first teachers and it is our privilege to be able to collectively navigate their child’s journey with respect. Belonging is the basic need for a fulfilling life; children feel they belong because of the relationships they have with their family, community, culture and place.
**Community** - We believe that being a part of Kurilpa is more than just attendance - it is through voice, action and participation in a multitude of ways that creates our Kurilpa community. The children learn from being part of something much bigger than themselves, through observing the many roles others play in our society. We do not just expose children to the elements of their community, we allow them to have an active voice of their rights as global citizens.
**Culture - **We celebrate all families and welcome them into our Kurilpa Community with open hearts and minds. We enable children to have a deeper connection to the world through developing a rich cultural knowledge of our community and beyond. We believe in embracing Australia’s First Nations cultures, embedding their deep understanding of the country we walk, learn and play upon into our everyday lives
**Team** - As a diverse team of educators we highly value collaboration through open communication and honesty. We develop professionally through adapting our philosophies and pedagogies to continually provide the best educational curriculum possible.
**Environment** - We believe in more than just following sustainable practices; we advocate for giving back to the earth through careful approaches and principles. We engage each individual to feel an ownership of their space. We work to build deep connections with the land on which we learn and we work to learn from the land.
**Governance**
Kurilpa is operated by an incorporated association and managed by a Management Committee of parent volunteers.
The Management Committee delegates the day-to-day operation of Kurilpa to its employees but oversees the overall
operation of the centre in areas such as budgeting, policy, recruitment etc - similar to a Board of Directors.
The Management Committee meets formally with the Director at least monthly.
**Your Opportunity**
You will be responsible for assisting in delivering high quality early childhood education and care to children and their families and implementing the daily program in partnership with the other educator’s at the Centre. You will support the established relationships with families; and the ‘culture’ of the centre.
The position reports to the Centre Directors, who provide guidance and direction in the delivery of the program and are responsible for overseeing the successful operation of the centre.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Respecting and valuing a child’s expertise, community, family and social contexts, cultural traditions and understanding and home language/s.
- Working in collaboration with the team to build a professional culture that ensures positive and productive working relationships with colleagues, families, management and other professionals within the Kurilpa Community Child Care Centre and the wider community.
- Model best practise behaviours in interpersonal communication, inclusive practise, negotiation, conflict resolution, and continuous improvement.
- Assist with implementing the program in partnership with children, families and colleagues, which reflect the
