**Key Relationships**

All Preparatory School teachers are responsible to the Head of Preparatory
School. The Head of PE and Co-curricular (Preparatory School) also reports
to the Head of Activities. Other key relationships include the Sports
Administration Coordinator, Curriculum Leader Health and Physical
Education and Property Maintenance staff. All teachers are ultimately
responsible to the Principal.

**_Position Objective: _**
The Head of PE and Co-curricular (Preparatory School) is the leading Preparatory School Health and Physical
Education teacher and takes operational responsibility for all aspects of Sport in the Preparatory School to
ensure integrated, best-practice programming and delivery via smooth, effective day-to-day running.

The Head of PE and Co-curricular is an enthusiastic and positive advocate for all sporting activities in the
School, along with a wide range of co-curricular activities. Focusing on both participation and performance,
this role helps deliver improvements in Westminster School’s Sports programs and the co-curricular program.
He or she will receive administrative support from the Sports Administration Coordinator. Close liaison will
be required with a range of staff on issues relating to Preparatory School sport, and with the Head of Sport
(Senior School) to ensure a coordinated sports program and philosophy.

As a teacher and educational leader, the Head of PE and Co-curricular has responsibility for the quality of
teaching and learning in the School and models the standards that are expected of all Preparatory School
teachers.

**_Key Responsibilities: _**
**1. Perform teaching and associated duties within the Preparatory School**
- Meet the expectations of all Preparatory School teachers as outlined by the Head of Preparatory

School in the current Preparatory School Teacher position description.
**2. Lead the programming and delivery of the Health and Physical Education curriculum for students from**

**Early Learning to Year 6 to achieve optimal student outcomes**
- Ensure that the essential knowledge and skills of the Australian curriculum are incorporated into

Health and Physical Education teaching and learning programs and aligned with Westminster’s
curriculum framework.
- Provide curriculum leadership to develop and introduce innovative, high quality Health and Physical

Education curriculum plans and programs that cater appropriately to individual student learning needs.
- Ensure equality of programs across year levels, liaising with the Prep Leadership team
- Monitor student skill acquisition levels and implement support activities where appropriate
- Mentor new staff, relief staff and student teachers in the Physical Education area.
- Partner in planning, implementing and evaluating School policies relating to the Health and PE curriculum.

**3. Deliver all operational aspects of Preparatory School Sports programs**
- Organise all aspects of Westminster School sports carnivals, House Sports, events and special programs, in

consultation and conjunction with the Prep Deputies and Heads of House.
- Plan and co-ordinate all aspects of the co-curricular sporting program, in particular SAPSASA sports.
- Organise and coordinate a high quality, high transfer daily fitness program, training staff needing upskilling.
- Facilitate the selection and involvement of our students and School in SAPSASA events, within School

guidelines and in consultation with Prep Deputies.
- Liaise with Property Maintenance, Marketing Manager and Senior School sports staff regarding the

condition, use and external hire of sports surfaces, facilities and resources.
- Ensure the adequate provision of first aid services and equipment for on and off campus sporting activities.
- Coordinate lunchtime sports equipment borrowing.

**4. Manage and/or coordinate staff engagement in Preparatory School sports programs**
- Encourage and promote staff involvement in the School’s sporting program, and support skill development
- Advise and support the Head of Activities in the allocation of teaching staff to co-curricular activit
