**Position Description**

**Position Title Deputy Head of Year 9**

**Campus Year 9, Canowindra Campus**

**Reports To **This position is accountable to the Principal through the Head of Year 9.

**Position Summary **The Deputy Head of Year 9 will provide significant and visible support to the Head

of Year 9 and Year 9 staff and will be required to deputise for the Head of Year 9 in

his/her absence.

**Role Management and**

**Review**

In relation to setting goals, managing performance and program accountability, the

Deputy Head of Year 9 will establish key performance indicators (KPIs) with the

Head of Year 9, within the first school term of appointment to the position. The

incumbent’s performance against these goals will be based on the key responsibilities

and qualities and skills associated with the position and will be reviewed at least

annually.

**Position Relationships **Positions accountable to this position are:

- Year 9 teachers
- Integration aides (who also report to the College Head of Learning

Development and Support)

The incumbent is a member of the Year 9 Leadership Team and chairs/attends Year 9

meetings, or as directed by the Head of Year 9.

Internal liaisons of this position are: Year 9 teachers, integration aides, Deputy Heads

of other Schools within the College, Year 9 Leaders and administrative staff attached

to Year 9.

**Key Responsibilities ** Assist in enacting the Head of Year 9’s vision and plan for Year 9

With the Head of Year 9:

Plan for ongoing improvement of student learning opportunities and academic
performance through implementation of the Overnewton curriculum

Establish and maintain a positive tone and culture of striving for excellence
amongst Year 9 staff and students

Oversee, develop, maintain and evaluate the delivery of student wellbeing
programs, including, but not limited to the Pastoral Care program, taking all

reasonable steps to promote the safety of Year 9 students

Oversee transition and orientation of students into Year 9 and also preparation of
Year 9 students for transition to Senior School

Ensure the ongoing development of the use of restorative practices at Year 9,
taking a leading role in encouraging positive behaviours

Liaise with parents regarding student learning and wellbeing, including
attendance at Student Support Group (SSG) meetings as required

Meet regularly with and provide direction to Year 9 Leaders (staff and students)

Take a leading role in the development of the Student Leadership Team

Lead the Year 9 Student Leadership Team and relevant service projects

Actively promote and maintain respect for the Year 9 environment, including the
provision of engaging learning spaces and shared areas for students, staff spaces

and grounds

Oversee and maintain staff performance appraisal and professional development

Take an active role in employment and induction of new staff

Oversee and provide mentoring for the process required to obtain full VIT
registration for newly graduated teachers

Liaise with specialist faculty members, including Learning Development and
Support staff, regarding their work at Year 9

Attend and conduct meetings as required

Liaise with the Year 9 Parent Support Team

Communicate with the wider College community including through _Whispers_,
- Omnia_ and other publications as appropriate

Represent Year 9 at College, Campus and School based events

Provide administrative support to the Head of Year 9:

Develop rosters as required (e.g. Meeting schedules, class duties, Assembly
items)

Build timetables as required (e.g. Focus Weeks, examinations, Pastoral Care
programs)

Carry out SPA data management/organisation and other data analysis as required
