**Principal Consultant**

Simple Machines is an Australian based firm of expert data strategists, architects, engineers, and data scientists at the forefront of the data revolution. Our mission is to help our clients unleash the full potential of their data assets. Our vision is to become one of the world’s leading data architecture and data engineering firms. We are currently looking for highly skilled software engineers in Sydney for the position of ‘Principal Consultant’. This will be a full-time position based in Sydney. There are numerous positions available.

Our Principal Consultant are focused on the underlying business problems that they’re solving and delivering the technical implementation. We are craftspeople that deliver high-quality software engineering work with an emphasis on fit-for-purpose solutions.

**_Responsibilities_**
- Work alongside a team of expert software engineers solving challenging business and technical problems.
- Influence projects from inception and architecture through to delivery.
- Participate in a team that is committed to continually learning and heavily engaged with the broader technology community, attending conferences, and contributing to open-source projects.
- Work with the tools that are right for the job, we do not mandate technology, we ensure the business problem and solution drive technical selection.
- Contribute to solution design workshops to advise on implementation approaches.
- Implement and deliver complex software systems.
- Ensure all work is performed to the highest quality by adhering to Simple Machines development, quality assurance, documentation, and governance standards.
- Working with technologies such as:

- Streaming platforms like Kafka, Kinesis
- Processing frameworks and platforms like Spark, Flink, Kafka Streams
- Persistence technologies including relational databases like Oracle, DB2, and Snowflake; or columnar stores such as Cassandra, Hive, or HBase
- DevOps tooling like Terraform or CloudFormation

**_Experience and skills required_**
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent employment experience
- Minimum of two years’ experience as a software engineer
- Expert level experience in scripting languages such as SQL, Bash, Python or Spark Scala
- A strong interest in working with different technologies and approaches suited to the problem being solved
- A strong understanding of modern architecture
- A willingness to learn and develop new skills
- A strong desire to work collaboratively with others
- The ability to communicate and work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $160,000.00 - $190,000.00 per year
