Museum of Australian Policing

The AFP is progressing the development of the Museum of Australian Policing (MoAP), which will be dedicated to telling the national story of law enforcement and policing in Australia. The Museum will be based in Canberra on the Acton Peninsula and will showcase through exhibitions, education and public programs the service of police officers at the local, national and international level.

To establish this new world-class museum, funds from the Proceeds of Crime Assets have been committed to the research, design and construction of the project. The museum will drive the mission to strengthen pride and trust in Australian policing, in-line with the broader strategic intent of the AFP.

What is the role?

Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Education and Public Programs Producer.

The Education and Public Programs Producer will be part of the Museum of Australian Policing project team within the Communications and Customs Branch.
Under the direction of the Team Leader Museum of Australian Policing, the Education and Public Programs Producer will be responsible for the research, development and implementation of a dedicated PACER program, a secondary school program and a schedule of exhibition related public programs.

You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

What will you do?

Develop, trial and evaluate innovative education offerings for the Museum of Australian Policing both onsite and virtually
Develop a dedicated PACER program which focuses on civics and citizenship in the context of Australian policing
Development of a secondary school program in collaboration with a tertiary institution
Development of a public tour offering in-line with the permanent and temporary exhibition narratives
Contribute to the development of interactive (both physical and digital) elements of the museum
Work collaboratively with the MoAP Curators to develop of a schedule of public programs that complement the temporary and permanent exhibition spaces
Work collaboratively with industry and internal marketing teams to promote MoAP to schools
Development of teacher and student education materials in consultation with relevant stakeholders
Regular engagement with relevant industry associations
Maintain a working knowledge of the Australian curriculum
Essential Requirements

You must be an Australian Citizen.
A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Bachelor of Education (primary or secondary) and/or tertiary museum qualifications
Current ACT Working with Vulnerable Peoples Card
Up to date knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and emerging trends, updates and issues
Desirable Requirements

The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded

At least 2 years’ experience in either a primary or secondary classroom or museum education setting
Knowledge of the PACER program
Current teacher registration
