**Support young people aged 12-24 with substance misuse issues through compassionate care, meaningful engagement, and targeted intervention.**
**The Role**
Centacare has an opening for two Youth Workers to join our alcohol and other drug residential rehabilitation program on a casual basis at our Stepney location. Reporting to the Manager of the Integrated Youth Substance Misuse Specialist Service (IYSMSS), you will be part of a supportive and close-knit team. This role involves working varied shifts on a 24/7 roster, providing care and support to young people aged 12 to 24 residing at Centacare’s IYSMSS facility who are dealing with substance misuse issues. Flexibility is essential, as the position includes overnight shifts and requires adaptability to changing day-to-day schedules.
The key duties in this role will include:
- Engage in therapeutic conversations and skill-building to help young people reduce substance use.
- Provide support with mental health, well-being, and relationship challenges.
- Monitor health and well-being to help young people sober up safely, offering brief interventions as needed.
- Escalate complex issues involving young people to the Senior AOD Youth Worker, Manager, or on-call Manager (after hours) following policy and procedure.
- Assist with new admissions to the IYSMSS residential rehabilitation program.
- Complete case notes in a timely manner.
**About You**
You are passionate about supporting young people and have a strong understanding of substance misuse and its impacts. Your ability to build trust and communicate effectively allows you to engage with youth in a meaningful way. You bring experience in providing care, managing challenging situations, and collaborating within a team to achieve positive outcomes. You are adaptable, resilient, and committed to maintaining a safe and supportive environment. Your proactive approach and attention to detail ensure that tasks such as documentation and adherence to procedures are completed efficiently.
**Essential Criteria**
- Certificate IV Alcohol & Other Drugs or equivalent
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Work experience in the community services sector (desirable)
- Experience in working with young people(desirable)
- Work experience in a residential rehabilitation setting (desirable)
- Experience working with individuals impacted by Alcohol and Other Drug Use (desirable)
- Tertiary qualification in Health and/or Social Services (desirable)
**Special Conditions**:
- As a shift work position, the AOD Youth Worker must have the ability to work across work a 24/7 rotating roster including active overnight shifts
