The Anaesthetist will provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within the Anaesthetics Service, in line with best practice standards and College requirements. The successful position holder will be responsible for the provision of specialist anaesthetic services to emergency patients, inpatients, and outpatients at the relevant Hospital. This may include (but not be limited to): Preadmission Clinic, General Operating Theatres, Endoscopy Suite, Pain Service, After hours On Call including occasional weekends, Interventional and Diagnostic Radiology, Interventional and Diagnostic Cardiac Procedures. The Anaesthetist will ensure provision of high-quality anaesthetic services to all patients within the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.

The Anaesthetist is responsible for the provision of specialist anaesthetic services to emergency patients, inpatients and outpatients at the relevant Hospital.

The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) has responsibility for health services in the Illawarra Shoalhaven region - a catchment area extending along the coastline from Helensburgh in the North, to North Durras in the South with over 400,000 residents. This catchment covers four Local Government Areas (LGAs): Wollongong, Kiama, Shellharbour and Shoalhaven. ISLHD operates eight hospital sites in Coledale, Bulli, Wollongong, Port Kembla, Shellharbour, Berry, Shoalhaven and Milton Ulladulla, and community health services operating from approximately 58 locations across the region. ISLHD is one of the region’s largest employers with a workforce of more than 8,500 staff.

Successful applicants to the role must provide certified documentation of vaccination history and pathology as part of their recruitment documentation. The applicant must be certified as compliant with Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases (nsw.gov.au) before employment can commence.
- Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) and/or equivalent specialist recognition.
- Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
