DVA has an insatiable appetite for data and associated insights. From ad-hoc requests for specific information to inform reporting and policy development, to cutting edge modelling to predict future trends, volume, costs, and program efficacy - data is increasingly central to everything we do.

The purpose of the Data and Insights Branch is to evolve the way the department produces and uses data, analytics and research, to underpin evidence-based policy development, service delivery and wellbeing outcomes. The branch fosters a culture of curiosity in data and research, establishing processes that enable the department to better understand and serve the needs of veterans and their families.

The Data Engineering team is building an enterprise data warehouse, integrating data from multiple sources into curated data products that are used for a variety of purposes including standard business reporting, advanced analytics, simulation modelling and predictive analysis. Our primary purpose is to ensure that source system data is well understood, documented for business use, modelled into consistent formats and structures, and to build products that enable business teams to understand their business and to drive decision making. We also provide technical support for proof of concept projects, trialling new ways of working with data and technology especially in cloud infrastructure. We work closely with the Visualisation team and ICT teams to improve data within DVA. Out current focus for recruitment is across technical analysts roles, data engineers and data modellers.

We are seeking a Data Modeller to join our team. In this role, you will assist in the design and implementation of data models for our enterprise data warehouse (EDW). You will work closely with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into logical and physical data models ensuring data is organised, accessible, and meets business requirements. This position requires an understanding of data modelling concepts, tools and techniques, database design, and ETL processes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow their career in data modeling and data management. We will consider applicants with limited experience provided they have experience or qualifications in related disciplines and are keen to learn.

**Duties**
- Develop conceptual, logical and physical data models and dimensional models.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and team members to determine requirements for the model including use cases, data definitions, business rules, and data quality solutions.
- Develop and promote standards to ensure a consistent approach to data management, data definition and data modelling.
- Create and maintain data dictionaries for the model.
- Explain and socialise the model clearly, accurately and precisely for different stakeholders in person and in documentation.
- Help the team with data analysis, validation and testing if required.
- Keep current with practices and trends in data modelling and data warehousing, evaluate and recommend tools and technologies and incorporate new techniques and methodologies to ensure ongoing relevance and accuracy in data modelling processes.

**Eligibility**
- Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
- All applicants external to DVA offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance. The screening check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.

**Notes**

Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for an initial specified term of up to 23 months.

A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.

DVA is committed to improving the data skills and capability of our workforce to underpin our goal of becoming a leading data-driven organisation.
