Professional Lead Clinical Coding

As the Professional Lead for Clinical Coding, you will lead the clinical coding workforce across Queensland to enhance the capture of hospital coded data, aligning it with the broader healthcare funding model. Your expertise will encompass inpatient, outpatient, sub and non-acute, emergency, and mental health care classifications, ensuring accurate and comprehensive data collection. As required you will provide essential backfill to coding leadership positions across the hospitals in support of planned and unplanned leave to ensure services can operate efficiently and effectively. Additionally, you will lead a state-wide coding education and audit portfolio, ensuring a standardized and cohesive approach to both education and coding audit practices.
You will offer strategic consultancy and advice to HHS executive teams on clinical coding practice, workforce management, and system processes. Moreover, you will forge close partnerships with nationally registered training organisations to drive national workforce priorities that will benefit Queensland's healthcare sector.
The successful person
To excel in this role, you must possess significant experience in clinical coding practice, including auditing and optimization, along with a proven history of delivering coding audit reports and findings.
Additionally, you should have demonstrated leadership skills in managing coding staff with diverse levels of experience, ranging from graduate clinical coders to highly advanced and experienced coders. Your ability to drive consistency of practice and establish effective communication in relation to coding decisions is crucial for success in this position.
Please note that to be eligible for this role, you must hold qualifications in Health Information Management or Clinical Coding. Furthermore, it is a mandatory requirement for the employee to be vaccinated against specified vaccine-preventable diseases (measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, pertussis, hepatitis B, tuberculosis) as per Health Employment Directive No. 01/16. Additionally, vaccination against COVID-19 is also mandatory as per Health Employment Directive No. 12/21 and Queensland Health Human Resources Policy B70.
