Climate change, energy change and disasters are crucial and growing issues for Australia and our region. Increasingly we are seeing the cascading impacts of disasters in a warming world. Disasters are front of mind for many Australians, coming out of the 2019 - 2020 Black Summer, the COVID pandemic, and increasing impacts from drought, cyclones, heatwaves and floods including recent floods in Eastern Victoria.

The ANU Institute for Climate, Energy and Disaster Solutions (ICEDS) has built a transdisciplinary research team to implement a new initiative - _Partnering with local communities in regional Australia to increase resilience to flood risk_. In this initiative, funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Agency, ANU is partnering with regional communities to develop a framework and process to evaluate options for minimising the impacts of floods on communities. A strong focus will be on development of the first ever Australian guidelines for integrating a natural assets-based approach to mitigation of flooding by rivers.

**Position overview**

The Project Officer will contribute to the execution, research, management and ongoing review of this project - _Partnering with local communities in regional Australia to increase resilience to flood risk_. The position will be responsible for assisting in managing the development, implementation and finalisation of the project, along with the provision of strategic, operational, research and administrative support and advice to senior stakeholders.

To excel in this role, you will have tertiary qualifications and high level administrative, project management, communications, stakeholder engagement, research and / or research management skills and experience. Qualifications or experience in flooding, disaster risk science and economics will be highly regarded. You will be a strong communicator and collaborator with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
