key accountabilities

1 GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES **Be competent and prepared to be appointed to the position of Temporary Supervisor as required.**
- Work according to the Code of Ethics of the Early Childhood Australia
- Work according to the current Education and Care Services National Regulations and current Education and Care Services National Law.
- Comply with the policies and procedures of Canning Vale School of Early Learning
- Inform the Director of all allegations or convictions of a child protection nature against an employee, of which you become aware
- Ensure compliance with Child Protection Legislation and Policies
- Advocate for children and families
- Know the National Quality Standard and actively contribute to meeting all elements
- Daily Journals to be completed.
- Have a commitment to the National Quality Framework for WA and the Early Years Learning Framework (children aged 0-5yrs)
- Have an actively anti bias approach which is reflected in interactions with children, families and other staff
- Keep up to date with current developments in the Early Childhood field
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training programs
- Room is aesthetically pleasing, learning opportunities are evident, clean and tidy
- Maintain resources and equipment in the room

2 CHILDREN **Create a safe, supportive, stimulating and educational environment for children**
- **Protect children and their rights - ensure all staff speak and treat all children appropriately.**:

- Form relationships with children which are comforting and nurturing
- Assist team leader to plan, implement and evaluate programs suitable to the individual needs and interests of children - maintain and follow all family input.
- Maintain ongoing records of the child’s development and daily information
- Ensure that the children are safe and adequately supervised at all times
- To be aware of children’s additional needs/requirements - diet/allergies etc
- Ensure daily routines are set out and followed
- Ensure a high standard of hygiene in compliance with procedures and policies
- Administer first aid or medication in compliance with procedures and policies - keep a check of the Allergies/Anaphylaxis first aid box, remind parents if the child’s medication is close to expiry.

3 STAFF Respect and value all staff members
- Help team leader to develop positive channels of communication to build a healthy team
- Collaborate with team leader to ensure that the program in continually improving
- Attend staff meetings as required - make notes of items to be discussed at the room meetings.
- Ensure all housekeeping duties are distributed equally
- Role model how to use and respect resources
- To monitor lunch breaks
- Ensure all staff are given equal amount of time for documenting observations and that the required number of observations are completed each week.
- Welcome new staff and assist Team Leader to train them

4 FAMILIES **Develop and maintain positive relationships with families**
- **Orientation process for new parents - make time to give them information about the room routine and find out about their child’s interests and development.**:

- Share information with the family relating to their child and their learning daily
- Create a safe, supportive and informative environment for families
- Act as a resource person for families - be able to refer them to different organisations for tips or assistance.
- Attend parent meetings as required
- Encourage families to participate in the curriculum as well as centre decision making and experiences and ensure that any family input in follwed up on the day it is given.

5 OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY AND INJURY MANAGEMENT Maintain a clean and safe work environment while complying with all safety policies and procedures
- Work within occupational health and safety guidelines
- Report all workplace accidents and hazards to your supervisor. Implement immediate action for identified hazards if able to do so and ensure incident reports are signed by the parent on the day.
- Participate in workplace consultative meetings as required and recommend improvements to relevant “standard work method statements”**6 CHILD PROTECTION**:

- To assist the Director to comply with child protection in the workplace -reporting and responding to allegations of reportable conduct against employees
- Inform the Director of concerns about the children in your care
- Ensure compliance as a mandatory reporter, which requires reporting to Department of Child Protection, where there is reasonable grounds to suspect that a child is at risk of harm
