**Our client is a successful, highly respected, progressive new home builder, based in Newcastle, NSW.**

Due to continued growth, they are looking for an experienced, Town Planner to join their team, and to be involved in exciting local projects in the aspects of planning new development projects.

**ABOUT THE ROLE**

The main responsibilities of this full-time, permanent role are:

- Perform due diligence for proposed developments and site investigations through to obtaining statutory approvals
- Manage land access, landowner notifications, planning assessments, statutory approvals and exemptions, stakeholder engagement and resolutions to enable scope of works to be completed
- Prepare, submit and manage the development approval process with accurate and regular reporting on the status
- Identify, analyse and raise development issues and manage/enact collaborative solutions
- Assist with compliance, post-approval conditions, and planning requirements in construction and operational project phases
- Facilitate compromises with external stakeholders to achieve satisfactory outcomes and secure approvals
- Liaise with clients and their representatives, while fostering strong client relationships and returning business relationships in a client-facing capacity
- Actively collaborate with technical professionals and other internal and external stakeholders
- Lead, inspire and mentor more junior team members
- Actively participate in an ongoing professional development to keep on top of a compliance and regulations related to the role

**ABOUT YOU**
- 5+ years of practical planning experience with tertiary qualification in Urban Planning or other related discipline
- Sound knowledge of NSW planning system and approval processing, with other relevant legislation, policies and procedures
- Previous experience in working with Councils and state officers/agencies with the ability and willingness to influence and negotiate with relevant stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional client management fostering positive working relationships
- Proven organisational and project management skills with the ability to work across several projects at the time
- Well-developed strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to read and understand construction drawings
- Proven leadership and mentoring skills
- Member of the Planning Institute/or equivalent (desirable)
- Active Driver’s Licence (desirable)
