Questacon - The National Science and Technology Centre is a division of the Australian Government Department of Industry, Science and Resources. Science communication is at the heart of what we do. We work with partners and supporters to deliver inspirational learning experiences for young Australians, their teachers, families and communities.
**About the team**:
The Learning Experiences team delivers targeted programs that provide science engagement experiences. These programs are aimed at diverse audiences, from early childhood to school aged students, families, and adults. They are delivered through facilitated experiences, theatrical performances, and structured workshops, including:
- **_Q Lab_** focuses on developing science inquiry skills such as observing, questioning, and testing. It helps to build the ability to better understand the world around us.
- **_The Shed_** explores the importance of problem solving and creativity in a hands-on making space. Visitors are encouraged to think, make, try and refine.
- **Live**_ Spectacular Science Shows_** inspire audiences through storytelling, interactive science demonstrations and humour to show the wonder of science and technology.
- **_Science Time_** invites curiosity, hands-on learning and play. 3-5 year olds and their caregivers work together to investigate, discover and share their findings.
Working as part of the Learning Experiences team, you will demonstrate excellent communication skills and contribute to a productive workplace. You will work with the team to deliver an excellent outcome for Questacon, our staff, visitors, stakeholders and supporters. To be successful you will:
- have a passion for science, technology, performance or education - or ideally all these things
- enjoy exploring scientific phenomena and ask questions that encourage discussion
- have experience delivering facilitated activities, theatrical performances or structured workshops - or other related methods of delivery - to a variety of audiences
- be able to facilitate engagement that is led by the visitor and adapt engagement to be accessible
- enjoy working with others to investigate, develop, test and deliver innovative science-based experiences
- contribute new ideas and identify opportunities to improve engagement
- help identify and manage risks associated with demonstrations and activities
- be able to work proactively as an individual and collaboratively as a member of a team
- be resilient and respond positively to change.
**What you will do**:
Working consistently with the expectations for an APS Level 4 in the APS Work Level Standards, as a Learning Experiences Officer, you will:
- deliver high quality experiences for a variety of audiences
- assist in mentoring and support of Learning Experiences Presenters through peer training, role modelling, and being an exemplar of program delivery
- assist with the development, testing and evaluation of new content, activities and delivery methods
- provide open communication to all team members including giving and receiving feedback and effectively contributing as part of a team
- adhere to policies and procedures and undertake regular training to ensure both the ongoing safety and high quality of programs
- carry out other activities as required in support of Questacon’s programs
- work within Australian Government guidelines such as Workplace Health and Safety, APS Values and Code of Conduct.
**Eligibility**:
These roles will be required to work with children who are unable to be vaccinated. In accordance with the department’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, the personnel in this role are required to have an up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination status as defined by the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI). The specified personnel will be required to provide proof of vaccination. Proof of vaccinations may include a vaccination certificate (an Australian Government COVID-19 digital certificate or COVID passport) or information from a government health body, a GP or treating specialist.
**Notes**:
Your role will be full time or part time ongoing, and you will work within the scope of the department’s Enterprise Agreement and other policies. Outside of the usual pattern or work, this role may require some after-hours or weekend work and may involve some interstate and international travel as required.
