**B. STATEMENT OF FUNCTION**
This position provides professional assistance and support in relation to development control, land use and
compliance matters in accordance with environmental and land use planning legislation, whilst developing skills
and experience to become a competent and effective professional
To undertake a cadet placement within the Sustainable Development section of Council whilst completing
appropriate tertiary studies (up to 6 years).
**C. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
1. Achieve satisfactory results in all study and training to gain A3 Accreditation.
2. Acquire knowledge of the Building Code of Australia and other legislation relative to building
development.
3. Ensure all work is performed to a high standard and completed in a timely manner.

development control (commiserate with knowledge and experience).
3. Attend and record pre lodgement meetings and advice
4. Respond to enquiries, complaints and reports regarding land use, permissibility, compliance and
development related matters
5. Undertake compliance action in consultation with Manager
6. Remain up to date with legislation and policy changes as relevant to the departmental functions
7. Liaise with agencies, staff and the community
8. Provide input into the development of plans, policies and procedures for the Sustainable Development
team
9. Collect data, maintain registers and records.
10. Carry out any other duties that are within the limits of the employees’ skill, competence and training.

**E. ESSENTIAL CRITERIA**
1. Eligibility to commence (or already commenced) study to gain relevant qualifications in building
certification.
2. Hold a SafeWork NSW recognized General Construction induction Card (White card) or be prepared to
obtain same.
3. A commitment to ongoing study requirements and ab ability to manage time and prioritise work.
4. Current Australian driver’s licence.
5. Working knowledge of roles and responsibilities under the WHS Act 2011._**F. DESIRABLE CRITERIA**
1. Demonstrated interest in Building Surveying or similar related field
2. Well-developed oral and written communication skills and aptitude for customer service.
3. Sound Microsoft Office skills, particularly with Word, Excel and Outlook.
