The School of Environment and Science maintains an illustrious research position across numerous industry sectors, guiding and informing its learning and teaching. Our research and teaching staff are acknowledged as world industry leaders, working across the broad science and environment disciplines enabling us to develop and deliver comprehensive study programs. We are currently looking for two Scientific Officers to support undergraduate teaching in the School of Environment and Science’s bioscience laboratories. The positions will be primarily supporting teaching activities and, on occasion, also assisting in research laboratories and engagement activities. The role includes the upkeep of laboratory documentation, assessing the risk of activities, and assisting with H&S compliance in research laboratories.
As a Scientific Officer, you’ll take on complex local and global challenges, using your skills and experience to drive meaningful change. Here’s how you’ll make it matter:
- Provide scientific and technical operational support for teaching, e.g., planning; set-up; refreshing; pre-running, using and demonstrating equipment; and dismantling of experiments for teaching laboratories.
- Perform regular calibration, minor maintenance and service scheduling of all relevant instrumentation and equipment, ensuring readiness for practical classes.
- Risk assesses activities conducted by technical staff including the use of chemicals, biological reagents, and equipment.
- Assist with H&S compliance across the School’s bioscience research laboratories under direction of the responsible research lab managers.

You will also have:
- A degree in biology, biomolecular or biomedical science and relevant practical experience, or an equivalent combination of education, skills and experience.
- Experience working in a PC2 level bioscience teaching laboratory.
- The ability to demonstrate the correct use of laboratory equipment to undergraduate students.
- Demonstrated experience supporting health and safety initiatives that are part of laboratory process and procedure.

- There are two continuing, full time positions primarily based at Griffith University Brisbane South (Nathan). As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations._

**Salary Range**
The full time equivalent base salary will be HEW Level 5 range $79,705 - $89,416 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $93,255 - $104,617 per annum.
