The Role

ALS is seeking an enthusiastic Maintenance Technician to join our Metallurgical Services business based in Balcatta, Perth Western Australia. The Maintenance Technician will report to the Senior Maintenance Coordinator HCE to assist with all maintenance requirements for the Hydrometallurgy Centre of Excellence (HCE) and it’s testwork facilities and pilot plants.

This is a permanent position within a small maintenance team conducting day-to-day mechanical maintenance on laboratory testwork equipment and apparatus, and from time to time building pilot plant skids and maintaining all associated pilot plant equipment. This position will suit an experienced handyman or semi-retired tradesperson/fitter who is dynamic, self-motivated, and seeking a secure long-term Perth based role with flexible work hours.

The day to day
- Mechanical hands on tool work
- Able to weld (preferred but not necessary)
- Working with Swagelok tubing and small valves
- Be adaptable to continuous change and interesting work challenges
- Experience with small scale pumps, tank agitators, and heat exchangers
- Previous mining or process chemical plant experience (highly regarded)
- Performing plant modifications during pilot plant runs (flexible hours)

The essentials
- Worked as a trade assistant or previous “Handy-man” role
- Must hold a Current WA drivers’ licence
- Forklift ticket (advantage)
- Good communication, organisational and time management skills.
- Great attention to detail and be highly motivated.
- Ability to work independently and under the supervision of the Snr Project Coordinator HCE Maintenance
- Follow and promote onsite HSE policy and procedures
- Good literacy, numeracy, and basic computer skills.
- Alignment to ALS core values and culture.
