About the Team
Our Group Safety and Standards Team comprises of specialists that provide insight into aspects of compliance, operational enhancements, and safety strategy. The team supports safety initiatives across the group in the fields of Investigation, Flight Data Management, Human Factors, Fatigue, Audit, and other Assurance activities. The specialist knowledge within the team, stems from a combination of academic and operational aviation knowledge in their respective fields.
The Opportunity
As a result of an internal promotion, we now have a leadership opportunity available in the role of Head of Safety and Standards - JBA Support. Reporting to our Chief Financial Officer, this role will see you leading the Safety and Standards Team to provide insight and assurance and partnering with the business to support the delivery of safety and operations excellence in all of our airlines (Jetstar Australia and New Zealand, in addition to our Jetstar Branded Airlines in Japan and Singapore).
As Head of Safety and Standards - JBA Support, your accountabilities will include:
- Providing strategic direction to the Jetstar Branded Airlines with respect to safety strategy and operating standards
- Leading safety and operations oversight of the Jetstar Branded Airlines through the Minimum Operating Standards (MOS) Program, ensuring continued alignment of the Jetstar operating practices to an acceptable level of safety
- Partnering with Jetstar Branded Airlines Head of Safety and Heads of Operational departments to ensure the MOS is tailored for our business differences while maintaining a suitable level of consistency
- Leading the Group Airline Safety Committee and associated Group Safety Governance, ensuring senior stakeholders remain informed on our safety performance and acting as the conduit between our Jetstar Branded Airlines and Jetstar/Qantas on key safety initiatives
- Provision of the Group Safety Services, including Human Factors/Human System Risk Specialist support and leading safety insights through the Flight Data Management program.
- Sponsoring key safety initiatives and projects, leading risk and change programs and conducting project health checks and post implementation reviews.
- Delivering superior people leadership to Safety and Standards Support Team, ensuring that the teams KPIs are congruent with our airline partners requirements and safety strategies.
Key to achieving success in this role will be your ability to leverage your superior influencing and relationship management expertise to deliver oversight and advice to operations and safety teams of which you do not have a direct line of authority over. You will also be required to develop safety systems with consideration to local airline requirements.
About you
We are searching for an accomplished operations leader who brings deep expertise in safety systems and risk management. You will be a skilled negotiator, who is able to balance the requirements of the Qantas Group and Jetstar with local cultures, operating environments and priorities. Naturally, you will bring strength in building relationships, ensuring that are you able to gain access to, and drive outcomes through, local leaders and SMEs.
You will bring:
- Safety Systems Training coupled with relevant tertiary qualifications (preferred)
- Significant operational leadership experience, ideally within aviation with strong exposure to safety/risk management
- A strong track record in the implementation of high-profile projects and initiatives, and able to communicate business status through a range of reporting methodologies such as business score cards
- Superior facilitation and coaching skills, coupled with strong planning and analytical expertise
- The ability to develop and deliver innovative and contemporary management system solutions.
