**Your role**
The Principal Investigator is responsible conducting detailed misconduct and workplace investigations as directed by the Investigations Manager, ensuring professionalism and effectiveness while complying with NSW public sector employment laws, as well as DCJ and CSNSW policies and procedures.
This role will lead inquiries into critical or serious incidents involving sensitive matters such as deaths in custody, inmate escapes, or alleged assaults on offenders, with the aim of safeguarding the public interest.
**What you’ll do**
You will prepare clear, evidence-based reports and documents on investigation findings for the Professional Standards Committee, aiding decisions on formal investigations and disciplinary actions. The Principal Investigator conducts risk assessments and provide senior management with high-level reports and recommendations on identified risks, negligence, policy, or procedural failures, to inform improvements in compliance, governance, and internal controls.
You will alert management to any emerging issues during investigations that may require external agency involvement and ensure accurate recording of activities and outcomes in relevant databases. Additionally, you will coach staff to foster professionalism, promote ongoing development, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, client-focused service for optimal outcomes.
**What we’re looking for**
- Knowledge of the Government Sector Employment Act 2013 (GSE Act), rules of evidence, civil and administrative procedures, and the machinery of government
- Relevant experience in the conduct of misconduct and other investigations in a public sector environment
- Certificate IV in Government Investigations or higher qualification or extensive relevant experience
- Current driver’s licence and preparedness to drive a vehicle in the course of performing the role
- Capacity and willingness to spend periods away from own residence.
