MOBILE DRUG SAFETY PRACTITIONER AND NEEDLE SYRINGE PROGRAM
COORDINATOR
35 hours per fortnight (0.4606 FTE)
Ongoing Position
The Position
The Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Team is a multi-disciplinary team, supporting consumers
requiring a range of treatment, support and education related to their use of alcohol and
other drugs (AOD).
The Mobile Drug Safety (MDS) and Needle Syringe Program (NSP) Coordinator provides
leadership to communities in the Bendigo area by taking a community development
approach to supporting local and regional harm reduction initiatives. The role also provides
a support role to primary and secondary NSP service delivery.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential
1. Qualifications in Public Health, Community Development, Welfare Studies, Alcohol and
Other Drug Diploma or other health related disciplines.
2. Minimum 2 years’ experience of working in the area of harm reduction with a strong
demonstrated understanding of a range of related areas including blood-borne virus
prevention (BBV), overdose prevention, management and relapse prevention.
3. Experience in a community development role, including project management,
community partnerships and collaboration.
4. Demonstrated understanding of the social model of health and how to integrate these
principles into practice.
5. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively
with a broad range of stakeholders, clients and people who support clients.
6. Demonstrated experience in contributing to the development of proposals, data
analysis and report writing.
7. Demonstrated ability to engage the target group in order to achieve positive
educational outcomes including the ability to communicate key health messages in
relation to drug safety.
8. Ability to provide and deliver coordinated key educational programs to the target
audience and the community.
9. Strong knowledge of and ability to use the Microsoft Office Suite and Windows based
programs and database management systems
10. Employment experience that demonstrates an ability to engage and build a rapport
with individuals of diverse background.
11. Current First Aid and CPR Certification.
12. Ability to work after hours.
13. A current employee Working with Children Check and Driver’s Licence.
14. The successful applicant will also be required to undertake and complete a Satisfactory
National Police Check.
