- Salary - $129,464 - $142,666 pa plus superannuation and leave loading
**Your role**
- The Principal Applied Statistician is a senior team member in a newly formed multi-disciplinary Modelling & Analytics (M&A) team within Corrections Research, Evaluation & Statistics (CRES). The M&A team combines expertise in advanced data analytics techniques and applied policy analysis to produce timely, objective and rigorous statistical insights that inform and support evidence-based policy and decision-making within CSNSW.
**What you’ll do**
- As the Principal Applied Statistician, you will have a senior role in leading the development of data-driven solutions and disseminating independent policy-related evidence. The Principal Applied Statistician will combine your expertise in applied statistical modelling (such as forecasting, applied regression modelling, causal inference and quasi-experimental methods, or predictive analytics) and your experience in translating complex technical analysis to effectively communicate policy-relevant findings that inform CSNSW strategic objectives.
- The Principal Applied Statistician will have a critical role in, but not limited to, the following:
- Identifying and analysing large datasets to build advanced prediction tools in priority areas such as domestic violence offending, behavioural outcomes in custody, and recidivism.
- Modelling the impact of policy and operational reforms on key indicators.
- Leading the development of high-quality reports, presentations, infographics and visualisations, and other publications
- Translating and communicating complex analyses to inform evidence-based decisions for senior stakeholders within CSNSW and the criminal justice system.

**What we’re looking for**
Key knowledge and experience
- Experience building statistical models (for example causal inference, forecasting or other statistical methods).
- Demonstrated experience in successfully communicating and translating complex statistical data and information to a range of audiences (such as presentations, written reports, etc).
Essential requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field, including Econometrics, Statistics, Data science, social science with a strong statistical or program evaluation component, or equivalent professional experience and training.
- Advanced programming skills and knowledge of statistical software packages, such as Stata, R, MATLAB or similar.
