About the role
The Officer - Workforce Capability & Engagement supports the development, training, and engagement of the Emergency Services workforce within Tasmania. The role ensures that local personnel are prepared, trained, and equipped to support communities before, during, and after disasters. This position contributes to workforce readiness by assisting with training, engagement, and local coordination activities.
About you
You will bring sound discipline knowledge gained through experience, training or education in emergency response, community engagement, volunteer coordination, or related fields.
In addition, you’ll demonstrate experience assisting with training, development, or workforce support activities and have a proven track record of working collaboratively within a team and engaging effectively with a range of stakeholders.
Key behavioural and technical capabilities
- Ability to work under general direction from senior employees within clear objectives and budget constraints and work with and support teams and people from diverse backgrounds and create a collaborative working environment
- Ability to manage time, set priorities, plan and organise their own work and that of lower classified staff and/or volunteers
- Demonstrated sound technical knowledge and expertise in workforce development, training methodologies, and volunteer management within emergency services contexts
- Sound analytical skills and demonstrated ability to assess, evaluate and solve problems generally found in policies and practices
- Ability to assist with motivating and supporting a local workforce.
- Able to work under direction and follow established plans and procedures.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to plan and coordinate own work and support team activities.
- Basic analytical skills to assist with evaluating workforce readiness and engagement outcomes.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage with staff, volunteers, and stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a positive, inclusive team environment.
- Flexible and adaptable to evolving local needs and operational priorities.

This role is covered by the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award - Level 4. Salary from $88,090.08 FTE + superannuation + salary packaging options.
