Are you up for the challenge?
- A purpose and a challenge that mattersYou will work in a team of highly skilled rangers to preserve and manage the marine parks, protected areas and culturally significant sites. The work is not always easy, it is very reactive and sometimes requires long hours outside normal work hours, but our people find satisfaction in knowing that their efforts are significant in preserving the natural and cultural environments of the marine park. Your importantwork will ensure Queensland's marine parks can continue to be appreciated by locals and visitors alike. Diverse, interesting work and experiencesYou will never be bored in this challenging position, but you will need to be flexible and able to adjust to change. Planned operations are frequently interrupted and you will need to be able to work with and lead small teams in the field. Outdoor work such as vessel patrols and enforcement operations will form a large part of your duties, but you will also have opportunities to get involved in a wide variety of other work and there will always be reporting and administrative tasks. Our rangers focus their skills locally, but they occasionally assist other management units across Queensland including the Great Barrier Reef. Opportunities to learn, discover and growAs an experienced team leader, you will already have good skills in key areas that relate to the position, but you will be given the chance to test, refine and build on those skills and to develop new ones using a wide range of training and learning programs to serve you, not only in this position but to also help you develop your career. A collaborative, innovative environmentYou will need to work closely with other QPWS regions, marine agencies and key stake holders such as Traditional Owners. We foster an environment where all people support each other in a positive, safe, diverse, and inclusive culture. Safety is a key area, and the unit is always looking for better and safer ways of completing any task. You should be able to not only identify possible improvements but be able to research ideas and present suggestions to the team and managers in a comprehensive manner. Great working location. You will be working in a marine park that has Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coasts on its borders and is the most visited protected area in Queensland. Based in the central location of Manly, you will have easy access to all that the Southeast Queensland Region offers. The Manly operations base is located at the Manly Marina and is a pleasant place to work without the hustle and bustle of Brisbane.
