The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority, and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state.
The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 per cent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
About the role
Use your skills and knowledge of family violence to provide a non-legal response to Respondents (PUV's) in Family Violence matters during the court process. Through single session engagements with Respondents, you will play a key role in holding respondents accountable using non-collusive practice and motivational interviewing techniques. You will utilize the MARAM risk assessment and share risk-relevant information under the Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme to support the management of risk and safety to Affected Family Members (Victim Survivors). As a part of your assessment, you will also make appropriate referrals into the community, including referrals to behaviour change interventions, mental health and alcohol and drug treatments where appropriate. You will also support the work of the Mandated Counselling Order program via conducting eligibility assessments for mandated behaviour change programs. You will establish and maintain relationships and work closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including Judiciary, Court Registrars, and community-based organisations and maintain accurate, professional case notes and record keeping.

About you
You will hold a relevant tertiary qualification in a related therapeutic discipline such as social work, psychology, or social sciences, and demonstrated experience and knowledge of Family Violence including drivers, risks and issues that can exacerbate family violence risk.
You will also bring with you sound skills in the provision of support, crisis containment and risk assessment as well as a demonstrated ability to promote Respondent accountability and identify and work against collusion.
