The Staff Specialist will be part of a team responsible for provision of specialist palliative care services in ISLHD. Primary work location would be within Illawarra and the successful applicant will be working with other palliative care staff specialists to provide expert service to inpatients (Bulli District Hospital, Wollongong Hospital, Shellharbour Hospital and Coledale hospital), Illawarra community and outpatients (clinic at Dapto community Health centre) within ISLHD. There maybe requirements to provide remote palliative care medical support to patients residing in Shoalhaven via the use of telehealth on a as required basis. The staff specialist will be part of an on-call afterhours roster that provides afterhours telephone support to the whole ISLHD district. The staff specialist will support the development of palliative care services, facilitate a culture of learning, and support research within the department.

**About the department.**
ISLHD Palliative Care Service sits within its own Division of Palliative Care. The Division provide End of Life Service, Bereavement counselling service and Palliative Care Volunteer Services in addition to Palliative Care Service. The Palliative Care Service provide inpatient (Palliative Care Unit and hospital consultation service), outpatient (clinics) and community care for palliative care patients. The Staff Specialist will have opportunities to conduct research, quality improvement and education projects with the Division's strong commitments to innovation, research and education. Our Division has supported multidisciplinary staff in conducting research activities that led to journal publications and presentations in Palliative Care conferences with recent commencement of our own palliative care research committee that networks with UOW to support young researchers in progressing their research ideas into projects/trials. Through the End of Life Service, clinicians have opportunities to facilitate education and workshops for non-palliative care clinicians. Our Division embrace the use of information technologies in improving patient outcomes and efficiencies such as utilisation of audiovisual telehealth, MS teams, Go-share bundles and electronic prescribing. We have a skilled multidisciplinary team including allied health clinicians, bereavement counsellors and volunteer programs that provide a holistic and comprehensive service to our local communities.
