Canberra, Australia Department of Industry, Science, Energy & Resources Full time

**Job no**: 513008

**Employment type**: Ongoing

**Location**: Canberra, Sydney, Hobart, Melbourne, Any location in Australia

**Categories**: Programme Management, Executive Level 2, Other Management

**About the department**:
The department plays a key role in the Australian Government’s agenda to create jobs and build a stronger, more resilient and competitive economy. Our work builds on Australia’s existing strengths, supports businesses to grow, and drives new opportunities for long-term productivity growth and prosperity. The success of the department helps Australia recover from the economic consequences of COVID‑19 and adapt to its ongoing effects. Through our work, we support the government’s economic recovery plan and help to deliver a better future for all Australians.

**About the team**:
The **AusIndustry Division** provides services to small and medium size businesses. For over 25 years AusIndustry has been a valuable hub, nurturing partnerships and networks, providing connections, and helping businesses to navigate the local, state and federal government support to get the best outcomes for each business.

The** Business Outreach and Engagement Branch **supports businesses to access government services, in a simpler and more streamlined way, and tell their story to inform better decision making. It does this by:

- Directly supporting businesses to grow, access services and grants, and make connections and networks.
- Listening to businesses’ stories and experiences and harnessing a large range of data across program areas to provide insights and intelligence to policy areas and decision makers, directly influencing the policy cycle.
- Providing strong program management and advice to customers through robust frameworks and training, capturing improvements made to our systems and processes over time and sharing them across government.

The **Business Outreach **section’s role is to manage, coordinate and leverage the 28 Regional Managers and 2 First Nations Business Regional Managers based around Australia in metropolitan and regional centres to better harness their collective effort and drive outcomes for business.

We will do this by:

- Focusing Regional Managers’ effort and knowledge to share regular and contextual intelligence with the department to ensure the policies and programs we deliver are designed with the beneficiary in mind and meet the needs of place-based businesses.
- Refocussing our outreach efforts on businesses where we have a national competitive and comparative advantage or where we are interested in boosting capability. This ensures that businesses have the expert business advice they need to grow and diversify, maximising the opportunities in these sectors.
- Leveraging existing relationships and strengthening outreach efforts to support businesses to adapt in current and post-COVID environments. This means building stronger cross-jurisdictional relationships and leading across government to connect businesses with services and grants available across Federal, State and Local governments.
- Ensuring that Regional Managers are in the best location to maximise the Government’s service delivery in regional areas, regions which have greater numbers of businesses in need of support and those with industries and sectors impacted by local disasters and COVID.

The **AusIndustry Business Outreach **network section is the department’s front-line, face-to-face national service offering. The national network is made up of two Managers and 30 Regional Managers who are located across regional centres and capital cities. The two Managers co-lead the network with each Manager responsible for a group of states (QLD/SA/WA/NT and NSW/ACT/VIC/TAS). The Managers work together to deliver a coherent and coordinated national network.

The network provides local businesses with information about programs, grants and services available from all levels of government. The network is mobile and engages face-to-face with the people who create, build and run Australian businesses to help them grow and succeed.

The network is also in a unique position to gather local insights from the business community and economic landscape around current and emerging issues, which then feeds into policy and program design. The network fosters strong collaborative relationships with local, state and federal government agencies, and offers a personalised business liaison function that takes into account the regional conditions.

**The opportunity**

To co-lead the national network comprising a unique team of front-line people, working in a variety of locations across the states you manage. You will do this by working collaboratively to strengthen the AusIndustry Business Outreach network’s impact, ensuring effort is being directed to deliver on Government priorities and that quality intelligence is being captured to inform policy and program design. You will be responsible for NSW/ACT/VIC/TAS.
