The purpose of this role is to work within Anatomical Pathology to provide support to all areas of the laboratory. The main duties of this role will encompass the provision of technical and administrative expertise in the areas which include Histology - Routine and Special, Cytology, Anatomical Pathology Administration and Mortuary - particularly deceased patient management.

**The Opportunity**:

- Manage deceased patient records and laboratory specimen disposal, including chemical and waste management.
- Monitor laboratory temperature control and maintain laboratory chemicals and stock.
- Handle slide/block file management, including receiving and sending out slides/blocks.
- Prepare reports, select slides for meetings, and archive laboratory materials as needed.
- Perform additional errands and tasks as requested.

**About You**:

- Laboratory experience preferred but not essential, with preference for mortuary duties experience.
- Applicants with funeral industry experience are encouraged to apply.
- Provide technical and administrative support to the Anatomical Pathology department after training.
- Relevant TAFE or tertiary qualification (Certificate, diploma, degree) in health sciences or related fields.
- Available to participate in staff meetings and education where appropriate.
- Victorian Department of Health has endorsed the initiative to _**_restructure existing public pathology_**_ by bringing together laboratories into pathology networks operating under a lead health service._
- Pathology services from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the Royal Women’s Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital will transition to _**_a single pathology service. _**_This creates an exciting opportunity to strengthen the scope, scale and reach of pathology services across the Parkville precinct to benefit all Victorians._
