**About the Position**

We have recently established a Palliative Care component to the wider Supportive Care Service, which focuses on providing complex Specialist Palliative Care to patients treated at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. The Palliative inpatient service consists of 6 inpatient beds, consultation services for inpatients, liaising with patient’s local Palliative Care and Community Services and outpatient clinic follow up for people receiving treatment at the hospital.

This role will be responsible for the provision of high standard clinical Supportive and Palliative Care services to patients of the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse.

This responsibility includes:

- the direct provision of clinical care, daily supervision and progress of clinical care of the 6 palliative care inpatients. This includes regular ward rounds with specialist and ward nursing staff.
- This 6 month term is also accredited for “Consultation” and “Cancer Care” rotations (Core Term 3 and Core Term 5 respectively), as part of Palliative Medicine Advanced Training, allowing you an earlier start to your speciality training pathway or to obtain access to highly sought after rotations in the cancer setting. A maximum of 12 month training duration over your training period is allowed to be undertaken at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, if you wanted to undertake both possible rotations here.
- provision of Palliative and Supportive Care inpatient consultation, follow up, documentation of care plans and communication of these plans to external Community Palliative Care teams and General Practitioners.
- attendance at the MDTs and a selection of tumor stream meetings.
- participation in the weekly Palliative and Supportive Care MDT - the multidisciplinary team of nurses, medical specialists, junior medical officers, allied health professionals, integrative oncology practitioners, spiritual care practitioners, and patient advocates.
- Participation in outpatient clinics and on call roster (1 in 4 weeks on call for Supportive and Palliative Care phone advice, with support of a specialist).
- Attendance and participation in departmental educational activities.
- Participation in Supportive Care, Integrative Oncology and Palliative Care research. Opportunity to develop and progress own research project.
- Opportunity to participate in specialist Integrative Oncology, Survivorship and Supportive Clinics and MDTs (in addition to Palliative Care clinics).

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Model behaviours consistent with the COBLH mission and vision and values.
- Provide high quality clinical care as part of a multidisciplinary team and coordinate clinical services (inpatient and outpatient), with the strong support and supervision of the Supportive and Palliative Care team.
- Participate in multidisciplinary coordinated care through case conferencing, discharge planning, patient education programs and participate in Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings.
- Participate in on-call rosters as required.
- Participate in scheduled teaching and training sessions.

**The following** **Selection** **Criteria are essential**:

- Minimum of 3 years post-graduate clinical experience
- Intention to complete Clinical Diploma in Palliative Medicine (RACP) or Advanced Training in Palliative Medicine
- Demonstrated ability to be a part of an effective multidisciplinary clinical team, including integrative oncology practitioners, other allied health and supportive care professionals.
- Exemplary compassionate care of patients and families affected by cancer.
- Excellent communication skills: verbal and written.

**The following Selection Criteria are desirable**:

- Advanced training in oncology stream e.g. Medical or Radiation Oncology.
- Experience and interest in medical education provision in the field of Palliative and Supportive Care.
