**The Role**:
The Precision Instrument Repairer at our company are highly skilled in performing technical assessments and troubleshooting for mechanical timepieces. They have expertise in evaluating the resistance of these watches to magnetic fields, ensuring the precision of the rate, and testing their water resistance. Our Precision Instrument Repairer are also capable of completely overhauling the movements of mechanical timepieces for accuracy and precision. They possess the necessary expertise to servicing sophisticated timepieces with a very high degree of precision.
This full-time role is based in our Richmond workshop and is responsible for the servicing of mechanical watches in line with technical instructions and specifications. The Precision Instrument Repairer must have the skills and experience necessary to service all types of watches from quartz and mechanical movements as well as chronographs. The base salary range for this position is $92,000 - $108,000 excluding super.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Disassemble and fault find mechanical movements
- Perform balance wheel poising and adjusting, hairspring and gear train adjustments and regulation of mechanical movements
- Achieve chronometer precision by regulating the movement by tweaking the escapement, whereby the oscillating balance wheel metes
- Place mechanism in demagnetizing machine to ensure all magnetic properties are removed
- Check and regulate timing of mechanical movement to ensure accurate rate, amplitude, beat error and power reserve
- Maintain tooling provided
- Maintain workshop equipment and inform management of any maintenance requirements in a timely manner
**Skills & Experience**:
- Qualified with satisfactory completion of a watchmaking apprenticeship / WOSTEP 3000hr course (or) equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience with servicing precision mechanical timepieces (standard and chronograph)
- Ability to service timepieces to the precision criteria established by Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) and/or COSC (Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute - ISO 3159)
- Excellent organisational skills and methodology
- Basic computer skills (for parts identification and technical documentation)
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability
- Ability to work towards targets and KPI’s
