**The Department**

Alfred Health’s Physiotherapy Department provides acute physiotherapy services to the patients of The Alfred and Sandringham Hospital, and subacute physiotherapy services at Caulfield Hospital.

The acute physiotherapy service at The Alfred Hospital and Sandringham Hospital includes clinical services and expertise in intensive care, cardiothoracic surgery, general surgery, orthopaedics, trauma, burns, lung transplantation, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary rehabilitation, neurology and neurosurgery, infectious diseases, haematology/oncology, general medicine, haemophilia and emergency.

The Caulfield Hospital Physiotherapy Department provides an extensive range of inpatient and ambulatory services in the areas of rehabilitation, aged care and residential care services. Clinical services include ABI, neurology, non-traumatic spinal cord injury, orthopaedics, amputees, burns, pain, aged care, transitional care and aged psychiatry.

The Alfred Health Physiotherapy Department has more than 100 EFT and employs over 170 staff. The physiotherapy service has a proud history of clinical and academic excellence. It remains strongly committed to further pursuing excellence in physiotherapy, through clinical research. There is a strong commitment to professional development and research with staff able to access an extensive continuing education program on-site and the support of an Associate Prof of Physiotherapy for research activities.

The Alfred Health Physiotherapy Department is a major partner in the Alfred Health Physiotherapy Clinical Schools for both La Trobe and Monash Universities and in this role provides core and elective clinical placements for more than 50 undergraduate physiotherapy students.

**The Role**

An exciting opportunity exists to join the Allied Health team at Alfred Health in the role of Deputy Physiotherapy Manager.

The Physiotherapy Deputy Manager works closely with, and supports, the Physiotherapy Manager in the operational leadership and management of the Physiotherapy Department. Their support includes:

- Leadership, management and professional practice support of the Physiotherapy service to ensure the provision of high-quality Physiotherapy services in accordance with Alfred Health strategic and operational plans and Physiotherapy professional practice standards.
- Management of specific, allocated physiotherapy operational responsibilities and/or Physiotherapy leadership portfolios
- Allied Health leadership to an Alfred Health clinical program, via an Allied Health leadership portfolio
- Responsibilities for ensuring expert clinical intervention is provided and that clinical care is provided in accordance with best practice professional standards and other relevant external standards
- Advising on the strategic direction of the Physiotherapy service and the contribution to the allied health service within the clinical programs, in consultation with the Physiotherapy Manager
- Working collaboratively with operational managers to support the achievement of broader allied health goals
- Performing other duties as required and delegated by the Discipline Manager, Director of Allied Health or Deputy Director(s) of Allied Health

The role is well supported by the Physiotherapy Manager and Director (and Deputy Directors) of Allied Health. Opportunities exist for the role to participate in organisational and department-level service review and change, as well as support for ongoing professional development and research.

**Skills and Qualifications Required**
- Bachelor Degree in Physiotherapy
- Eligibility for membership of the relevant professional association
- Registration for practice as a Physiotherapist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency where relevant
- Post-graduate clinical qualifications or health services management/administration/ business management at Masters level or higher
- Experience in the delivery and/or management of an Physiotherapy service in a hospital environment, and recognised as a leader within the Physiotherapy profession
- Demonstrated health system wide knowledge and ability to respond to the changing needs of the Physiotherapy service
