Pedestrian Facilities Surveillance Inspector

Public Sector People are currently assisting a Council in Melbourne West to recruit a Pedestrian Facilities Surveillance Inspector for a Temporary contract assignment.
As a Pedestrian Facilities Surveillance Inspector, you will be responsible for assessing and arranging works for public requests, regular asset inspections of footpaths and nature strips and overseeing footpath replacements and liaising with residents and contractors.
This will be an initial 3-month temporary contract assignment with opportunity to extend for up to 9 months.
**Duties will include but not limited to**:
- undertake as a team member assigned RMP and customer request inspections and record the defects of Council’s footpath and kerb and vehicle crossings assets that exceed the current RMP intervention.
- Physically inspect, measure and marking, Council’s footpath and kerb and vehicle crossings for maintenance works
- Report the progress and value of allocated and approved works each fortnight.
- Lift and install standard warning signs, barricades, bollards etc. and lift repair materials to OH&S standards.
- Allocating works to concrete and grinding contractors in the field, and monitoring progress and compliance as required
- Obtaining purchase orders for goods and services and approve contractor payments within authorisation
- Arrange for the issue of purchase orders for goods and services and approve payments less than $5,000.
- Recommending contractor payments to the Coordinator for approval
- Accurate completion of all inspections and requests, for the Road Management Plan customer service and injury/damage reports and “Freedom of Information” within relevant deadlines
- Inspection and assessment of assets in accordance with Council’s Road Management Plan.
- Identification of hazards that exceed the Road Management Plan intervention
- Ability to identify alternative actions based on experience and make recommendations to the Coordinator to meet targets and specifications requirements
**Requirements include**:
- A solid understanding of local government policies, procedures, and legislation.
- Experience working within Victorian Local Government in a relevant field.
- Strong customer service skills, excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Skills in managing time, setting priorities and planning and organising own work.
- Ability to respond to changing priorities and able to complete tasks within tight timeframes.
- Computer literate with thorough understanding of the relevant software (Confirm, SSA Records Manager and GIS) system.
- Several years related work experience in footpath inspection and maintenance
- Technical knowledge, qualifications preferred, to make informed decisions and problem solving in a construction and maintenance environment
- White card
- OHS knowledge and traffic management qualifications necessary to work safely (COVID Infection control, manual handling, etc) and to monitor contractor worksites (OHS basic and traffic management Stop-slow and Implement traffic management Plan qualifications).A current
- Victorian drivers license.
