AUSTRAC’s Enforcement is looking for Legal Officers with skills and experience relevant to regulatory compliance and enforcement work, including civil penalty litigation.

DUTIES

Legal Officers will:
1. Investigate serious non-compliance with the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (AML/CTF Act).

3. Contribute to formal enforcement actions in response to identified breaches. Enforcement action can include civil penalty proceedings, infringement notices and administrative actions such as remedial directions requiring entities to take specified action to ensure compliance.

4. Advise AUSTRAC’s Regulatory Supervision and Enforcement teams on a broad range of regulatory law and administrative law issues, focusing on statutory interpretation, administrative decision making and the exercise of statutory powers.

5. Support the conduct of AUSTRAC enforcement actions including civil penalty proceedings, infringement notices and administrative actions such as remedial directions.

6. Contribute to multi-disciplinary teams and problem-solving exercises relating to difficult regulatory challenges.

7. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including AUSTRAC management, reporting entities, partner agencies and other parts of government.

Applicants must:

- be admitted on the roll of an Australian State or Territory Supreme Court or the High Court of Australia; and
- hold, or be eligible to hold, a practising certificate in the jurisdiction of your state of residence.

Please note, these roles are not suitable for graduate/trainee lawyers. Applicants with at least two years post-admission experience will be advantaged.
