If you’re a passionate strategic planner with natural hazards experience and the ambition and drive to help Australia’s third largest Council shape its natural hazards planning, resilience and climate change adaptation and programs
- then this job is the challenge you’ve been looking for.

The Moreton Bay Region comprises traditional Jinibara, Kabi Kabi and Turrbal country and boasts an enviable lifestyle with beautiful beaches, waterways and lush hinterlands. It is also experiencing one of the fastest population growth rates in the country and over the next two decades it will be home to more people than the entire state of Tasmania.

Our Council has set a new aspirational vision for how we want our region to look and feel 20 years from now - Our Moreton Bay. Amazing places. Natural Spaces. As well as goals to ensure Moreton Bay will be renowned for its healthy natural and built environments that enhance our identity, support biodiversity and our sustainable lifestyles.

Our challenge is to protect and enhance our lifestyle, while sensitively planning and facilitating the anticipated growth in a way that increases the region’s resilience to current and future natural hazards and climate change. Great opportunities exist to achieve that balance and to actively participate in shaping a resilient and sustainable region so that future generations can enjoy the lifestyles and amenity we value so highly today.

The Environment and Sustainability Policy and Planning Department sits within the Planning Directorate and takes a lead role in developing the strategic environmental, sustainability, natural hazards resilience and climate change adaptation policies and plans to ensure healthy natural and built environments. A major strategic initiative currently underway is the development of a Regional Environment and Sustainability Strategy that will inform a transition for the Council, community and residents to a more sustainable future.

Our team has grown in order to meet legislative requirements, community aspirations and Council’s priorities. Its functions comprise three streams; Sustainability Planning, Natural Hazards Planning and Biodiversity Planning. **_Right now, we are looking for a Principal_** **_Planner - Natural Hazards to join the team._**

**About the Opportunity**:
As our **_Principal Planner - Natural Hazards_** you will act as our technical expert and provide leadership and direction to team members in the delivery of integrated natural hazards planning and climate change adaptation outcomes across the region and within the MBRC organisation.

- lead the delivery of highly complex natural hazards planning, policy and resilience projects and specialist project teams (including external consultants) to achieve strategic and business outcomes
- take a leadership role in the development of team capability to drive a high performance, continuous improvement and customer focused culture
- facilitate project-based community consultation including representing Council at a range of customer meetings, community and business forums
- build high level relationships across a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects and service deliverables are achieved.

**About you**:
We are seeking someone who has excellent knowledge and experience in either strategic planning, natural hazards or climate change adaptation planning. You will have a demonstrated passion for being ‘future focused’ and experience in risk-based approaches to planning for natural hazards and climate change risks and their integration into land use planning and development policy. You will be an excellent communicator who thrives in building high level and trusted working relationships with our stakeholders, including our community.

You will have:
