This position uses research and practical skills to help realize the potential of post-quantum cryptography to improve the security level of internet protocols. The Research Fellow works on designing, implementing, and testing various networking protocols before delivering a functional prototype towards the end of the project.
Working with the support and direction from the project lead, this position plays a central role in the innovation and development of Internet protocols associated with crypto systems.
**Your key responsibilities will include**:
- Initiating, designing and conducting high-quality research, scholarship and creative activities generating high impact cyber security and post-quantum security research outputs
- Engaging collaboratively to participate in novel and high-quality research or creative activities in post-quantum security and internet protocols
- Widely communicating outputs to discipline(s) and the community
- Ensuring impact of academic activity in the field and the community
- Supporting seeking funding for research and creative activities
- Building national reputation, based on growing, focused body of work recognised for quality, excellence and impact
- Initiating, designing, conducting and at times leading intra
- and inter-disciplinary research collaborations, to enable major breakthroughs in knowledge and understanding and solutions to complex problems
- Initiating, designing, conducting and at times leading development of industry partnerships and collaboration to enable major breakthroughs, innovative solutions for future translation into real world impact
- Building track record of timely delivery of outcomes for industry partners
- Initiating, designing, conducting and at times leading innovation and translation into policies, frameworks, strategy, priority setting and other outcomes to create positive impact
- Initiating, designing, conducting and at times leading innovation and translation into products, services, new ways of operating and other avenues to create positive impact
- Supporting attraction of external funding for commercialization and translation activities
- Building portfolio of policy and strategy influence, generation of products, services or other innovations with positive real-world impact
- Demonstrating timely delivery of commercialisation and translation outcomes
- Supervising honours and/or HDR students with timely completions and productive, high quality outcomes
- Providing effective mentoring to HDR students to support professional and career development and employability
- Adopting and promoting a culture of research excellence, innovation and impact
- Establishing/expanding industry network to create opportunities for placements
- Supporting industry partnerships that provide HDRs with industry experience
***Key selection criteria for this role**:
- PhD in computer science, computer engineering, or network engineering
- Evidence of research experience and skills that are sufficient to implement internet protocols (IPSec, VPN, HTTPS, DNSSEC, etc.) and assist with the communication of research findings in presentations and journal articles
- Demonstrated ability to translate cryptographic concepts into engaging and easy to understand digital information and tools
- Knowledge and skills in computer networking protocols (IP, TCP, UDP, SSL/TLS, IPSec, DNS, VPN) and operating system-level programming (C on Linux)
- Emerging reputation in research and scholarship through publications and/or exhibitions
- Success in obtaining external research funding
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues
- Ability to make a contribution to community engagement for research
