**Why Your Role Matters**
The Peer Connection Officer plays a key role in the Pro Vice-Chancellor Education & Student Experience Portfolio, delivering inclusive co-curricular programs that support UNSW students' holistic development. This role involves creating engaging initiatives that help with student onboarding, transition, retention, and success through peer connections. These programs focus mainly on international and broader student cohorts, aiming to integrate all students into the UNSW Community effectively.
The Peer Connections Officer reports to the Manager, Peer Connections and will have casual mentors/assistants reporting into them.
**Specific accountabilities for this role include**
- Support the Manager, Peer Connections to develop and pilot new university wide peer-to-peer mentoring programs that continue to respond to the diverse needs and interests of the UNSW student population
- Support the Manager to ensure that peer to peer mentoring programs are developed and implemented with the international student cohort and their specific needs at their core
- Continue to develop existing programs and initiatives with international student transition and development at the heart, including the Cultural Mentors Program, International Student Welcome Centre and Language Exchange Program
- Continue to implement the peer mentor training framework across all areas of the University
- Provide accurate and timely reports on the effectiveness of the programs and initiatives delivered
- Provide support and effective services to internal clients across the University with all relevant stakeholders
- Recruitment and training of student volunteers for other centrally delivered peer support programs
**Who You Are**
- Demonstrated experience providing effective service in a student-facing function, with a compassionate, positive and respectful approach to working with people from diverse backgrounds and with different needs
- Demonstrated event management and coordination experience
- Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at different levels within an organisation
- Demonstrated ability to absorb information and utilise it to analyse, interpret and integrate data as well as identify opportunities for continuous improvement
- Proven ability to work flexibly, productively, and effectively as part of a team while operating autonomously and demonstrating initiative and a proactive approach to solving situations
- Highly advanced interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to empathise and provide considered and informed and clear advice to students
- High level computer literacy including proficiency in using Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel to match, analyse and filter data
The role operates during regular business hours, Monday to Friday. There will be occasional events throughout the year that occur outside of typical workdays. The team functions in a hybrid environment, with office days scheduled from Tuesday to Thursday.
