About us
The Department of Justice and Community Safety has built a new maximum-security prison, Western Plains Correctional Centre. The 1248 bed facility is an essential part of the government's commitment to improving community safety.
Employees working in the initial stage of operations will contribute to the foundations of the new facility by participating in the development of operating processes, services and procedures. In addition, they will be part of a multi-disciplinary team committed to building a culture of continuous improvement in the workplace.
The new correctional centre will strengthen the way we work by harnessing innovative approaches and using the latest in technology to achieve improved outcomes for prisoners and the safety of the whole community.

About the role
Industry Officers are responsible for the management and delivery of specific functions within prison industries. This includes assisting with the management of prisoner employment, safe operating procedures and other Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) requirements, and compliance with prison industry procedures. Industry staff may be required to work in various areas according to operational requirements.
**In this role, you will**:
- In the early stages, be responsible for the set-up of the staff canteen, kitchen(s), visitor café and preparing meals within the staff canteen and for wider catering purposes
- Work within a team ensuring the operational aims of the kitchen industry are achieved
- Provide coaching, motivation and mentoring to prison workers to enhance their skills and employability options post release
About you
- Relevant trade experience in food industry/catering would be advantageous
- Completion of appropriate trade qualifications or equivalent related to the needs of the facility and experience at training workers in that trade area.
- Commitment to working with staff, prisoners, and other service providers in the delivery of an integrated, whole of Justice approach to facilitate rehabilitation and reduce re-offending including demonstrated understanding of effective case management practices and managing risk with complex individuals.
- Completion of (or willing to undertake) Corrections Victoria pre-service training

**IMPORTANT INFORMATION**:

Therefore, there is a requirement that all DJCS employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to undertake duties outside of their homes.
At interview stage and prior to commencement of employment with the department, you will need to provide evidence that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 with three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Upon commencement of employment with the department you will be required to provide evidence that you have an up-to-date vaccination status within the timelines specified by the department into the DJCS Service Portal. This includes evidence of three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine required by the department (from time to time).
**Acceptable evidence includes**:
- COVID-19 digital certificate or ATAGI exemption certificate (available via your myGov account)
- Your immunisation history statement (available via your myGov account)
Other documentation outside the above will not be accepted as evidence of having received your COVID-19 vaccine doses.
